ReactOS is still in alpha, and doesn't have support for a wide range of hardware. For now, it's recommended to try it inside a virtual machine such as VMWare or Qemu.
Edit: I guess I could add:
The support for different hardware will improve as ReactOS gets developed more.
As for myself, I only run ReactOS inside VMWare at the moment.
(Though I did try ReactOS once on my old 600mhz celeron and that worked..)

Try the LiveCD...
Anyway i think testers needs some "sysinfo" tool to post the correct config of machines used for tests.
Personally i use the (barely legal) Hiren's BootCD.
Anyway it would be great to work with open source tools instead...
LiveCD works on my Compaq board (VIA chipset+AMD K6-III 533@550) !Z98 wrote:VIA based processors and etc have been confirmed not to work the majority of the time. I have one and I've yet to succeed in getting ReactOS to run on it.

Nice to hear you finally got it installed, generally it's a good idea to test a "final" (for example 0.3.0) release and not a trunk if you have a problem with one of them, sometimes there are bugs that keeps the trunk form working properly, these bugs is sopposed to be as few a s possible in a final release.kiev1 wrote:Finally! picking up was succeeded - it Segate ST31722A and via PLE133+Celeron1000 - however with samsung-20G not works.
In this event question: - how to set most ordinary network card - RL8139 - ?
why does hardware manager not work?
half of the programs from system properties does not run!
Next it is important it is installed on the first partition on a IDE drive and that has to be a FAT16/FAT32 partition.
That should make it as easy as possible to get it to work.
If you want a shortcut in installing drivers, dual install together with Win2k and copy the two directories c:\winnt\inf and c:\winnt\system32\drivers (NOT overwriting any present files) then you get all drivers automatically from the Win2k installation. If any of the drivers doesn't work delete that sys-file and it's corresponding .inf file and you are ready to rock!
Good luck!
