Explorer settings are customization settings for Explorer, the graphical shell of ReactOS and Windows.

Registry Values

Advanced Explorer Settings

These settings are found in the registry key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced. They can be set in either the HKEY_CURRENT_USER or the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hives. To change any of these settings, navigate to the registry key mentioned above and add or update these registry values.

Registry Value Type Compatible OSes Use
TaskbarSizeMove REG_DWORD ReactOS, Windows XP and newer Locks and unlocks the taskbar.
0 - Locks the taskbar.
1 - Unlocks the taskbar.
PreferDateOverWeekday REG_DWORD ReactOS only Sets the contents of the second line of the system clock.
0 - Display the weekday. This is the same behavior as Windows Vista and older versions.
1 - Display the date. This is the same behavior as Windows 7 and newer versions.
ShowSeconds REG_DWORD ReactOS, Windows 10 and newer Shows or hides the seconds on the system clock.
0 - Hide seconds in the system clock.
1 - Show seconds in the system clock.
TaskbarGlomming REG_DWORD ReactOS, Windows XP to Windows Vista Enables or disables taskbar grouping.
0 - Disable taskbar grouping.
1 - Enable taskbar grouping.
EnableAutotray REG_DWORD ReactOS, Windows 10 Shows or hides inactive icons in the notification area.
0 - Show inactive icons in the notification area
1 - Hide inactive icons in the notification area.
TaskbarSmallIcons REG_DWORD ReactOS, Windows 7 and newer Sets taskbar icon size.
0 - Use large icons in the taskbar.
1 - Use small icons in the taskbar.
CompactTrayIcons REG_DWORD ReactOS only Sets the notification area icon spacing.

0 - Automatic. When small taskbar icons are used, the notification area will use compact tray icon spacing. When large taskbar icons are used, the notification area will use larger tray icon spacing.
1 - Never Compact. Regardless of the taskbar icon size setting, the notification area will always use larger spacing. This follows the behavior of Windows 7 and newer versions.
2 - Always Compact. Regardless of the taskbar icon size setting, the notification area will always use compact spacing. This follows the behavior of Windows Vista and older versions.

TaskbarSd REG_DWORD ReactOS, Windows 10 and newer Enables or disables the show desktop button in the taskbar.
0 - Disable the show desktop button.
1 - Enable the show desktop button.
