Someone's going to post "ReactOS isn't Linux" so it might as well be me.

How far does ReactOS boot? Do you get an entirely black display with no mouse cursor? Do you manage to get a mouse cursor but no further than that?

Thanks for the reply

It asks: "Press any key to boot from CD"

I press any key, but it doesn't move forward from this point.

Although the labtop is new, but it is very small and has only 500 MHz AMD processor. Could this be the reason?

I don't think the graphics adapter supports Vesa modes, have you tried to start in VGA resolution?

I have just seen the specifications once more and you are right that graphic adapter is UMA (although I have no idea what graphic adapter is and what UMA or VGA is).

Any how it says it also has a 1 VGA Ausgang (german for output I think)

You could find whole specification here:

If it's a USB external CD drive, you won't have much luck doing anything ,as ReactOS doesn't support much USB yet. (USB keyboard and mouse are only just about working and useable)

Thanks 123King,

I think you are absolutely right about the problem, while this notebook is extremely small and has no CD ROM and we have to use external CD/DVD player to play the LIVE CD

So, what should be the solution?

This CD/DVD player is from LG External Super Multi DVD Writer.

Please also tell me if we have ReactOS in future on USB stick, is this problem still going to exist?

Is there any other solution (except direct installation while there is still 2 year guaranttee on this notebook and if I install ReactOS then this guaranttee becomes void)

At moment there is Mandriva Linux isntalled on this notebook (by the firm itself).

Problem is this that Processor of this small notebook is so slow that in Mandriva Linux it is not running Videos like You tube etc. And this is the biggest problem. Other applications are also super slow.

USB is currently in development.
We are in development,so our apologies :)...but i know you can understand us...of course USB is going to be present in ReactOS.And im pretty sure you will be able to see Yuotube videos.Since im seeing them perfectly with 64Mb ram and Pentium 2 :)

I also can't boot the live cd on my compaq presario desktop.
The ReactOS screen comes up.
It starts loading drivers then says:
"unable to verify NTFS volume"
"unable to verify FAT volume"
Then the screen goes blank.
I also tried it on my wifes dell inspiron with no luck.
It hangs on the drivers screen.

Which LiveCD? 0.3.8 or an SVN build?
If the latter, which one and was it the debug or release version?
How many hard disk drives do you have?
How many CD/DVD drives do you have?
Are they SATA or IDE?
How are your hard disk drives partitioned?

One external USB Seagate 80 gig IDE FAT32.

The external USB drive won't work, since USB storage devices aren't yet functioning IIRC. As for the rest, I'm not sure, so you'd best wait for a developer to answer you.

In the mean time, try using one of the more up-to-date SVN builds and report back any findings.

Also, in case they are useful, here's some possibly-interesting Bugzilla entries:

It looks like bug 3170, which was supposedly fixed before 0.3.8 release…

Tried livecd from rev.~40678 on completely different notebook, with disk containing NTFS, swap and ext3 partition, worked.
