Suggestion: "codec" system

Post by ThePhysicist » Mon May 02, 2005 1:02 am

in Windows you have codecs for WfW and DirectShow filter. The first ones appear in a list, the second ones: I don't know where (dxdiag, maybe).

I think reactOS should have a Codec-Manager (maybe a category in the Package manager) where you can see installed codes and remove them if no longer needed.

There could also be support for other "codecs" than audio/video. For example Archives / documents / image files, etc.
So software could use every archive etc. wich has a codec installed.
Install a uha/zip/arj codec and all programs wich want to use any archives can use all of them without the need to implement anything.

This may ease development in the future.

What do you think of this idea?

ReactOS does not support any directshow codecc
directshow are one part of directx

we already support vfw codecc (diffent audio and video codecc)
(not full support)

I think that React can be just made enough WinNT compatible, so anyone will may install directX9 from MS. Then DX problem will be gone.

Basicly a improving standard. And becoming more platform dependant.
