Another Installation error

Post by Bobj_1960 » Tue May 15, 2012 6:19 pm

COMPUTER INFO:
Toshiba Satellite Laptop
Processor: 32-bit 1.3 MHz (if memory serves me correctly)
RAM: 4 GB
HDD: 60 GB
Previous OS: Windows XP SP3

Created bootable cd from ISO image ReactOS 0.3.14

On the step to copy files it reaches 99% then stops.
bottom of screen says: copying (unpacking?) Wine_gecko-1.0.0-x86.cab

Also, tried to create a new install disc on my Win7 computer and the CD will not boot. Where can I get a bootable file? The disc I'm using was created on the computer that is now blank.

Maybe you should wait for 0.3.15 or install the LiveCD in your HDD (if thats possible)

Go to the downloads page and scroll to the bottom. Click on Get Trunk Builds. Grab the most recent ISO, burn to CD. That'll give you the most recent (and bootable) version of ROS. Let us know how the new version works, if at all. ;)

I downloaded file bootcd-56592-dbg.7z and unpacked it using 7zip.
Burned file to CD using windows burn utility
put cd in test machine and rebooted.
boots to blinking cursor

IS the a boot record that I need to download from somewhere?

I assume you unpacked correctly by downloading the zip/7z file, then unpacking it so you end up with an ISO file.
Afterwards, burn the ISO image file to CD

If you place the ISO on CD it's not bootable as you only made a data CD then, not a bootable CD.
If you unpacked the ISO and transfered the contents of the ISO to CD, you end up with the same issue.

If you ever modify the contents of the ISO before burning it, you're on your own. Documentation isn't very clear on which exact filesystem is required for the CD, let alone which mastering and burning applications are able to handle this with which required settings.

Perhaps ReactOS should start selling CD/DVD/USB media :)

Making progress, but......

"If you place the ISO on CD it's not bootable as you only made a data CD then, not a bootable CD."

Windows explorer DOES NOT create a bootable disk. Found a utility to create a disk image and now the cd boots.

To continue the saga:
Removed CD as requested and rebooted and it hangs at driver install
Using the debug and screen log options I found that it is hanging on I8042prt.sys with error code C0000034

(BTW, I appreciate everyone's patience and help)

More information

Created a new install disk with build: bootcd-56604-dbg.7z
Same results and errors.

I then tried creating a livecd with: livecd-56604-dbg.7z
Booted from cd and lo and behold ReactOS booted on the computer.

Doing a little research I have found similar errors under Windows and they allude to modifying a Registry entry.

If it is a registry entry, how do I modify the one one the hard drive and which entry and values do I use?

Thanks
