It's more about the impact of ReactOS being in top 10 ;)

If you use Google Chrome then it can translate the webpage for you on the fly.
top 100

Number 1 spot is not enough, we should overflow that vote counter with so many REAL voters that ReactOS stand out from the rest of the competition. That's true PR!

What's the deadline for this competition?

6 ;)

BTW, 1000 EUR may not be much... but it is basically the "recognition" by a serious bank, that this is a project worthy of support. All others, who "would like to support, but are not sure whether it is legal" (yes, as ridiculous as it is, many think that e.g. Linux has to do with piracy!) can more easily be put at ease.

Number 6 indeed. You are right on the false association thing. I read the article that someone put up which said our OS was only legal in Russia. That was really too absurd to comment on. Interestingly, there is a music piracy association currently ranking about 50.

We still need 1012 or so this far to move to first place. While I doubt first place would give us anything extra in and of itself, being on the top of the list would insure visibility. Most who see the list won't read the entire thing, but being near the top will make an impression or serve as a reminder.

925 votes behind first place so we need 309 people to vote 3 times per email and boom we are number 1 provided no one else voted on the current number 1

Posted the link in Twitter, Facebook and set my MSN and ICQ Status to it ^^
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

They might have "music piracy" in their name, but they aren't such. They chose that name, because publishers used "music pirates" as a way to describe people that illegaly download music. The Musikpiraten was founded by members of the German pirate party (Piratenpartei). Their goal (a free translation from the German wiki page about them) is:
"advancement of free culture with a focus on music as an artistic means of expression"

They also created two music books (one for normal songs and one for christmas ones) licensed under creative commons so that children in kindergartens could sing songs without the need to pay licences to the GEMA (link to English Wikipedia).
