how to contribute to the graphic design

Post by sycamoreent »

Hello,
I am very interested in reactOS, so I would like to participate in developing.
I tried going to the development section of your website, but I couldn't find a link for becoming a developer.
My skills are graphic design (buttons and icons) so I was hoping I could help work on the interface.
I have included some icons I have made, Please Help me.

Hi, nice work! ;)
The fastest path for you to take is to join us in IRC: #reactos in freenode.net
We use the tango icon set, the best way to start testing is to download RosBE (ReactOS build environment) and the source. Once done you can start replacing icons with your own to see how they fit. For example those from the shell. See also this thread.
Feel free to ask here anyway.

MOD EDIT: I hope you don't mind I changed the forum to design and modified the title accordingly as this is where this post belongs to.

EDIT2: I forgot ms published a guideline to creating xp icons, this might be of interest to you.

thank you!
Now my question is, how do I give you guys my icons once I decide that they look nice in the interface?
Also, do the packages have the close buttons and the like?

Well..you can give your icons in multiple ways. If you want you can send those to me or you can use a service as
http://depositfiles.com/ and link it here :)

Start by replacing some and create a set with the same consistent style, you can post your shots here, we need a full iconset to replace ours... for the time being you should concentrate more on icons, as that's the most supported "theming" feature...

How many pixels by pixels should they be? and do you have a list of the icons you need?

Please read the document I posted before, this will save us a lot of time: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms997636.aspx
Sizes are 48 × 48, 32 × 32, 24 × 24, and 16 × 16 pixels, for the icons "list" see the link I posted above (shell), download the source and search for every .ico file...

You need to be able to create an icon that's on par with Tango set sycamoreent.

He doesnt need to follow Tango, he just needs to follow a commun set of rules.Tango is widely used and looks quite old nowadays.
