Re: KDE on ReactOS project
Those are the disadvantages of being (if I remeber correctly) the biggest open source project just after the Linux Kernel and having an unprecedented range of features in it.Those are the typical KDE issues at least they arent ROS related
On the other hand Windows packages dependencies are not fine grained, so it installs a lot of things you don't really always need. Kdelibs in Linux fit in around 10MB.

Can anyone do a How To?

Re: KDE on ReactOS project
It's some time that I don't try KDE on ReactOS, however I think that, following my own experience with the KDE Installer on ReactOS and Davy Bartoloni reports, the steps involved should be something like this.
Hope it helps, just let me know if I should correct something!
- start the KDE for Windows Installer on either Windows or Linux + Wine;
- select the option "Download only" in the first screen of the wizard;
- if asked prefer mingw4 packages, but maybe vc90 (Visual Studio 2008 Compiler) works too;
- remember where you save the temporary files (packages);
- copy the installer and the packages folder in ReactOS;
- start the installer and select the "Install from local directory" option;
- follow the installer instructions;
- ignore the false prompts;
- enter the "bin" folder in the installation directory and try some exes;
- pray
Hope it helps, just let me know if I should correct something!
Re: KDE on ReactOS project
Well, I've tryed to follow the how to, but when i try to run the installer on ROS it kills the virtualbox.
Thanks anyway!
EDIT: Fails under ROS 0.3.10 but runs on recent trunk builds!

Re: KDE on ReactOS project
Good to know! Can I ask you if some applications start without crashing (working reliably is unlikely in Windows too, so I don't expect ReactOS to do any better)? Look at the screenshots in the previous page of this thread to know which ones are more likely to work...EDIT: Fails under ROS 0.3.10 but runs on recent trunk builds!
If you have the time to write a list that would be awesome.

Re: KDE on ReactOS project
Sounds like that dumb OS project I started off a year ago.
At least wait until ReactOS is beta and it's graphics subsystems are beefed up, then do all fancy stuff, or learn the hard way like I did.
