Hello all...
I was so excited to try a new OS, but alas, when i boot form CD and start install, the PC shuts down(not reboot) at the part where it says copying files, about 15 seconds into that. I am installing on an Asus MB, P5B with AMD dual core and Asus Video card....
Anything i should try and do?
Thanks...

+ Which CD were you using (0.3.9, 0.3.10 or a trunk build)? If a trunk build, which exact one?
+ If not US English, which language did you attempt to use?
+ How many hard disks/partitions/CD drives etc. are there? Are they USB, PATA (IDE) or SATA?
+ What is the exact video card that you use?
+ What is your I/O controller?
+ Do you use a USB or PS2 keyboard/mouse?
+ Tell us about your other hardware (network cards or sound cards, etc.) in case it helps.
Re: Install shutdown PC at teh copying file process
I used whatever version was available for download on your site today, around 11AM EST
I never got far enough to select a language, it shut down a few seconds after it started to copy files...
Here is a run down
Motherboard: Asus P5B intel P965 chipset (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/408)
1 Gig of RAM(two sticks)
Video card is Asus is a AGP card model number EN7600GT/2DHT/256M/A
Hard drive is a Hitachi 160 gig SATA with windows XP Pro on it(its ok to delete if needed)
Network is on board, Maverick GIG, not sure of model number
Keyboard and mouse are via ONE usb connector as i have it connect to a KVM
I will chnage the video card and see what happens...

Re: Install shutdown PC at teh copying file process
As far as i was able to check, this mobo uses two SATA chips... Serial IDE: Six SATA-300 ports, four controlled by the south bridge (ICH8) and two controlled by JMicron JMB363 chip (RAID0, RAID1 and JBOD on these two). One of them is located externally.
ICH8 should work with uniata, but JMicron uses AHCI, so it has to be set in LEGACY mode. It could still be something else.

Re: Install shutdown PC at teh copying file process
I am using the install cd
I will make sure the drive is connect to the SouthBridge port....
I have not had time to change the video card yet, but will try today..
Thanks for the replies

Re: Install shutdown PC at teh copying file process
Ok so disabled the Jmicron and only used the southbridge one, i get same result with the install cd version 3.10
I will try another machine and get back to you.

Re: Install shutdown PC at teh copying file process
You might just want to try using ReactOS inside a virtual machine using QEMU, VirtualBox or VMWare. It's much simpler and avoids the pitfalls of incompatible hardware. Note that Microsoft Virtual PC is supposedly too buggy to run ReactOS properly.
QEMU, VirtualBox and VMWare are all available for download free of charge. QEMU and VirtualBox are open source, but VMWare provides the fastest emulation. If you're not sure which one to choose, I'd recommend VirtualBox - it's what I use personally and it has a nice GUI.
