What is most important for 0.3?

Post by mrsuicide »

What do you personally think is the very most important thing that to do before ROS 0.3, besides fixing nasty bugs?

I'd like to see more UI improvements.

I want to see a fully functional Start Menue ( which implies shell32 improvements )!!

I don't want to see those "stub" windows that don't do anything. ( example: Control Panel applets ).

I want to see "back", "forward" and "one folder up" buttons in Explorer working.

UI is comfort. Comfort is what Windows made so sucessful.

You can poll all you want, but the stated goal for 0.3 is basic networking.

I'd like to see some work on the UI. Especially what you said about One folder up in explorer.
Also, being able to copy files and so on would be nice.

What you ask for is plug'n'play. Experienced users (Granma will not use ReactOS 0.3) can live without it, and I think it will be really useful when ReactOS will be compatible with most (if not all) drivers.

I voted for drivers too, most important being network cards drivers (common Realtek, integrated VIA rhine II and such). display and sound come second (while being very important too)

Next thing I want is supporting Valve's Steam, with HL1 based games at least in software mode, or obviously better, in OpenGL mode. (even HL1 without steam would be great)

With a gecko browser (someone could try K-Meleon?) and a MSN-compatible IM client, ROS will start to be useful; if I can play CS and DoD too and all of this works, I'll start using ROS on real hardware ;)

I'm glad to see Xircon working (on a screenshot), it's my favorite IRC client :)

support for USB storage devices are a must, first question people ask is does it work with my USB key?

I think the UI is important, but so are drivers. people need to install the driver for their modem so they can connect to the internet.

If creating a UI attracted some developers here i would think completing it would attract more. (a lot of the settings menu's give me changing this is not in reactos yet.)

I think while improving the GUI would be nice, it can wait. Driver support would be much more usefull.
