Re: graphics
I made a site for ReactOS media files. Everbody can upload files (JPEG, PNG, ICO, ZIP) and write a comment / vote. Maybe you have time to upload your pic.Delfi wrote:just incase you need some cooler logos or graphics i'll post it in this topic,

well, i can't avoid telling my honest oppinion - slanted typefaces makes me vomit - it destroys any try of harmonic composition - 'licked-softly' gradients too... - i hope i'm not offending - it's just my humble oppinion
for references, try to look at good books and websites related to graphic design and illustration - DesignIsKinky, CommunicationArts, U&LC, Eye,DotDotDot, etc...
as well, good books about Design History and Typography may help too

i may be wrong, but maybe the best example of design applied to an operative system is from Apple, for several reasons:
- for marketing (design sells!)
- a good amount of MacOS users are creative people (graphic designers, musicians, motion designers, etc.), so they don't want to desilude them...
- even MacOS GUI follows a very solid norm, named Human Interface Guideline, which also was inspired Gnome HIG as example how good it is

Skinning it one thing, but doesn't the UI stay the same even if it looks different? Don't the buttons, toolbars, menus and such still look, act and feel mostly the same? If so, that's what I was referring to, if not, I'm up a tree.

PS. I was actually just replying to NtF.

i have a proposal (i don't know if i writed this again anywhere)
my idea is to target graphic design universities for ReactOS graphic norms for academic competition, and as well having it as part of academic program or on thesis - students would love to be part of it, will have lots of issues to get faced and learn with (which design student would want trying to help an open-source OS looking better than MacOS-X? (if this is possible?) - This is an excellent challenge!!!!!)
you know, visual communication is a too serious stuff to be reckless - that's why there are graphic design associations (like www.icograda.org), graphic design universities and graphic design professionals

nitrofurano: at least reactos should have a classic basic standard gui without skinning like xp provides it.
so the competition should have 2 parts:
a nice slightly fresh design for the classic gui (like win95 differs from xp classic view -> nice icon set, some colorchanges, some border changes and so on..)
AND
a design for the standard theme (like una is xp's standard theme).
i hope u understand what i mean
