The Future of ReactOS?

The Future of ReactOS?

What interested me is that now Vista ist available...
and XP will be past... in 2-3 years, because there
will be no any updates for it.. I hear...

We can't compare Linux and MacOS with ReactOS and Windows...
I know...

So... Vista ist very comfortable... but the disadvantages are visible for everybody... and we know that it is a resources eater...

Windows is awful... had a acceptable design... but softwares not real work stable.. I must use it... :(

but many people.. don't like to learn anything from the begining...

I will come to my question..
...where are you the Developer seeing ReactOS in the coming years?
...how usefull is it to distrubute a System with nearly no chance?

I like ReactOS, but it is at the start and... Windows?.. is high developed!

I only want know... what will be the objectives.. for ReactOS..
thats what me interest...
becaues by that style and the comfort, is the idea to develop a system,
which execute Windows Software... not the best idea....

greets and sorry for my bad english...

why is it a bad idea? windows is the most installed desktop operating system in the world, why not create a clone of windows that has all of the good bits but none of the bad bits?

No chance? In a couple of years, there will be a lot of people wanting to run just some applications and won't need a resource hog like Vista.
I say there's a pretty good chance for ReactOS, considering that Windows isn't going anywhere soon, and it's eating more and more resources.

a) With Windows XP Service Pack 3 being released at the end of the year.
b) After a year-ish of Vista being availiable. The majority are still using XP (not just because of the bad things they hear about Vista. But there are more common sense ones like, for example; a college with 1000 PCs with XP on all set up with user privileges, software and are working day-to-day with no problems... so why switch to a new system?)
c) 95% of hardware works on XP... as little as 45% of that same hardware works with Vista.

I'm afraid XP may be here for a very long time, at least, until Microsoft produce a better replacement OS.

I understand..
there are very good arguments.

Nice to hear that ROS will be develop Vista compatible.

But fact is, people with pc experience (not enough) will use ROS...
...and that's not bad, because the Developer can concentrate
to develope it in compatibility and not in security...

that is time which don't go lost...

I will use ROS, when the time comes...

Heh.

Vista was the reason that I kept on with the ReactOS project. Had MS decided to make lighter, faster OS', I might not have been too interested, apart from the fact that ReactOS is free.

we already have partily vista support. we have implment some vista in reactos. it allown us run some vista apps. like vista notepad and other thing from vista. but our kernel ntoskrnl is aim be windows 2003 server compatible.

to say ReactOS does not have any kind vista support is wrong.
we are aim frist hand make reactos 2003 server compatible all windows 2003 api it got. but few devs have already done some vista api in varius place.

And anyway, some Vista-generation stuff (Home Server?) is still Windows NT 5.x. Vista itself is 6.x.
