(maybe) ReactOS Media Player
Now that sound support is slowly being added, the question of a media player comes to mind.
What do you think? Should ReactOS have it's own homemade player (possibly compatible with WMP) or should we simply stick to Winamp or XMPlay or open source media players?

What? do you remember ReactAMP? I made it quite a while ago for ReactOS 0.2.3 i think. Its just WinAMP 0.9?? edited with Resource Hacker....gasmann wrote:Someone already wrote a working mediaplayer called 'ROSAMP'
However I don't know where I found it...
EDIT: Sorry, the name wasn't ROSAMP, it's ReactAMP.
I don't have it anymore, but its cool someone remembers it, and yeah, it worked great on ROS. though i'd never had any sound out of it because of the lack of a sound driver....

For a simple media player you're right.i dont know, but maybe i can do this job, isnt too hard to do this
in c++ builder i can do one in minutes, and in 1 week i can do a very reliabe one
But for a full media system (including the codecs, file format parsers, skins, ...) compatible with Windows Media Player, It's not such an easy job. Not all of microsoft's formats are documented, and those which ARE are not documented very well. One example is the WMP skin format: WMZ. I don't see how anything short of a web browser could decode the skin format and apply it.
BTW, I don't mean to discourage you. If you think you can do it, DO IT!!! I'd be more than glad to use your player to listen to my mp3s.
ReactAMP sounds nice, by the way.

Maybe you can have a look at DelphAmp (GPL)
http://www.delphamp.com/
I like the Media Player Classic most, looking forward to see it in some ROS distributions in the future
vlc is a quite powerful media player under GPL for windows linux *BSD MacOS,...
it has codecs for many formats included
last time i tested it with reactos the installation routine worked but vlc produced a kmode exception
