Photographic backgrounds

Post by geertvdijk »

My brother is doing a graphical college, and as a part of it he makes photographs... some of them are really great (I think), and he has said they can be used in ReactOS, if his name is mentioned somewhere (they are copyrighted...) in the about screen of reactos maybe, like in Firefox, the about screen when you click the button at the left bottom side, it scrolls through all people who worked on it, I hope you understand me :D.
However, these are some photographs I think are nice enough:

http://gervan.webpal.info/school/Fotogr ... 0licht.jpg (maybe a cutout)

(cutout?)
http://gervan.webpal.info/school/Fotogr ... %20009.jpg
(not sure)
http://gervan.webpal.info/school/Fotogr ... buiten.jpg
(not sure, nice pic, but it still is a fly on there :D)
http://gervan.webpal.info/school/Fotografie/pano2.jpg
(pretty big, but a cutout would do)

What do you think? :D

Wow! What camera makes 7600 x 2000 pix? Or is it a composition?

koraal is pretty cool.

Also the last one is nice, just a shame it looks slightly out of focus.

I also like the colors in lol2%2000

I believe he got hands on an 11 MP digital reflex camera from school, nikkon or something... Some photographs may be compositions I'm not sure :D

The problem is not how cool is a photo, but which license is released on.

Check out my 'Links' on the wiki

It's only 'license' (my brother didnt really mention one) is that his name is mentioned somewhere... That's all...

None of those pix were edited at all to be desktops. Those formats were out of control. It's a nice start, and not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I think the desktop pix need to be a lot nicer. Check the ubuntu desktops for example. Some of them are REALLY pro. Now if somebody has some better shots taken, I'd be happy to edit them into good desktop photos and enhance the color etc.

Those pix were too blurry, had too much mud in them, or basically weren't quite compelling enough to start with. Plus, all we really need is 1280x1024, or maybe 1600x1400 at the most to start with.

/me goes to go look for Ubuntu desktop pix links as an example.

photos are really nice, but I think they're not really adaptated for ReactOS.
Maybe it's good if we can chosse them pictures or an other, like windows. But I'm not really enjoyed by these photos, the format is'nt good enought, but that's be said.

See you later, Squall

According to EXIF infos from pictures, it is "HP PhotoSmart R717", nothing near 11MP Reflex.

It's what my brother told me, but it could be not all the pictures, or he was bragging, I don't know... He'll be here next week, I'll ask :D

Iam not a really big fan of Photographic Wallpapers, somehow they give me a really odd feeling. It gives me a bit amateurish feeling, Photographic backrounds aint something that i like, and iam sure that there's many other users who feel the same.

Something who looks much better is Drawn nature images, drawn from a good Image editor,
it gives a much smoother feeling and looks more professional somehow.

Also in my opinion it feels like ReactOS should have a little more abstract/stylish wallpaper,
Something like this one who is designed by Greg Martin

If you really feel that you want a Nature wallpaper instead, then something similiar to this would be great in my opinion.
also designed by Greg Martin

Photographic backgrounds are the defacto industry standard. Everyone loves photographs. That artist is bad-ass, though.

Hi, I've been following ReactOS for maybe a year, patiently watching the audit bar crawl along. I've not posted anything as I'm no programmer, but the discussions about wallpapers and stuff have got me to register so I can post. :D Anyhew, I have quite a few photos, which I think make fairly good desktop backgrounds, although none resized to be so, but should be easily done, or made into more wallpaper-ish images. Below is a link to one of my photo collections, the craziest ones really, but there are more sane photo collections if you back out to the main album index 'visual_etc' (heck, they're all fabulous but I'm too modest ).

EDIT: i'm particularly happy with 'B_forestfloor_clover.jpg' & was going to submit it for the GIMP splash screen, but missed the deadline.
