virtual video/chat software

Post by lm8 »

Everyone seems to be using virtual chat software like Zoom, etc. or online video/chat software that requires the latest browsers in order to do virtual meetings. Has anyone had any luck running any of this stuff in conjunction with ReactOS? I've been trying to search for software or Open Source code that's compatible with ReactOS or older versions of Windows, but haven't had much luck. With everyone moving meetings online, it leaves people out if they don't have the latest software/hardware. Would like to find some projects that work or could work with ReactOS, preferably Open Source so that further development can be done with it. Thanks.

Well, Zoom does not work at all in ROS, see CORE-17024 and CORE-17023
Other systems like "Jitsi" relies on web browser (Chrome for Jitsi)... and with respect to others only testing them in ReactOS will give to us an answer.

Also webcams and microphones support in ReactOS is another quest to test....

Can't get Zoom to install even on some Windows systems. Could possibly get around the microphone issue with some services by using the phone lines. Most systems will work without a webcam. If the chat systems are via web, some of them are using webrtc protocol. So, would need a more modern browser that supported that protocol. Some of the Free Software groups mentioned jami as an alternative to Jitsi. It's not browser based.

What do the ReactOS developers use to communicate? Does it work with ReactOS? If not, maybe it's time to look into making something that does work on ReactOS.

IRC, Mattermost, email, JIRA, GitHub? Yes they all work in ROS in one way or another.
