Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
no, we're done with SVN
if microsoft deletes our github mirror, our own git mirror should remain unaffected
if you want you may clone the project to your own repo on gitlab

You guys did not see this coming? We did!!!

Where can I download ReactOS source code?bobbykennedy wrote:our own git mirror should remain unaffected
I cannot see it.
Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
Any guide to clone a Github repo on GitLab, and syncronize ReactOS Github repository with ReactOS GitLab repository to be updated with the last code and comment?bobbykennedy wrote: if you want you may clone the project to your own repo on gitlab
I will do my GitLab account soon.

Good question.jimtabor wrote: You guys did not see this coming? We did!!!
That`s why we should have contingence plans and be prepared for almost everything that could happen.
Who did know this would happen before?
Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
It is incompatible with Git's data structure. It is very hard to collide hashes to replace one bit of meaningful source code by another bit of meaningful source code.I'd think it'd be more likely that they inject code directly from their old source code from other NT versions to replace existing code and then sue us for adding it.

Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
Calm down, people. Some of you clearly don't understand how Git works.
Every developer's machine contains a clone of the Git repository, which contains the entire history. If GitHub shuts down, we lose open PRs (though in most cases not the associated branches, since they're still on the contributor's machine at least), PR comments and PR history. That's it. The source code is entirely safe, and git.reactos.org, or any single other clone is enough to restore it.
We use GitHub because it's convenient -- and the choice was easy, because we're not dependent on it in any way, and only a "git remote set-url" command away from switching to any other host.

Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
What a kindergarten here.
* - but even a funnier question to you is why they need to buy github to steal the code of the f&cking open-source project? didn't you think of this?
seriously, are you trolling, right? or it's a humor section? then well, let me joke too. Of course they will steal the code. After all turning Windows into an alpha state should be nostalgic. They return into 1988, when NT has been starting its first steps.erkinalp wrote:A contigency plan is definitely needed. What if Microsoft secretly steals ReactOS code and ships with Windows*?

Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
There is a little bit of feature ReactOS does better than Windows:viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17048. They might steal it.

Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
Adapting our code for this into their explorer will take one of their engineers longer than implementing that feature without using ROS.erkinalp wrote:There is a little bit of feature ReactOS does better than Windows:viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17048. Unless "steal" just refers to the idea of implementing it... in which case, they are in fact encouraged to do so. We are an open source project after all, and do not pursue patents on our features. They are there for everyone to see and emulate, by design!

Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
Don't you think you present ROS as too important? You can not be serious with this inconsequential accusation... If you are, feels bad, man....erkinalp wrote:There is a little bit of feature ReactOS does better than Windows:viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17048. ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Re: GitHub Replacement Plan?
Because it is a direct replacement of #1 most used operating system in personal computing.
Windows team is not allowed to look at copylefted software, just as we are not allowed to look at Windows source code.ThFabba wrote:They are there for everyone to see and emulate, by design!
