IRC client

Post by Angedestenebres »

Hello,

I recently tried ReactOS and I have to admit that I really like the project.

However, I was surprised to find only mIRC as IRC client in App Manager for an open-source project (ok, I can use Pidgin too ^^).
I know mIRC is one of the most used IRC client (and I know it works fine) but there are several free and open-source softwares like Quassel, Kvirc and Hexchat.

So as I usually use Kvirc, I tried to install the last version and it was a success!

I think it could be interesting to have it and maybe some others (if they work) in App Manager.

What do you think about that?

Due to the fact that we try to attract Windows useres, we have to add Windows apps of course and the most important is Mirc which is out of discussion. We don't care about licenses here, too. If you wanna use FOSS only then we would not win any ground at all. Our main aim is to run the successful closed source apps too. If it works, cool stuff, plz make a bug report in Jira and link it to me (Daniel Reimer) I will add it in my holidays.
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Hello,

Ok, i'll add that on Jira.

I also tried to install Quassel & HexChat, but without any success :/

Quassel => Install OK but I got this error when I tried to open it:

About HexChat, I can't install it:

I think there is no chance to install it on ReactOS at the moment, except by using an old version.

Edit: Tests have been done on rev 71992.
Edit2: Same on rev 72017.

Are these 32 or 64 bit versions? And yes... 2nd error is not that simple to fix....

hmm Should be 32 afaik but I can't there is no info on the download page: http://quassel-irc.org/downloads

But in the file file, I saw x86 so... I guess it's 32 bits version.

Edit: i made a report on Jira for Kvirc, see: https://jira.reactos.org/browse/ROSAPPS-331 :)

ROSAPPS is wrong. THis is a CORE one. ROSAPPS is the apps subtree of ReactOS.

Hey,

About quassel, it seems we can launch it if we use the version 0.12.2 (in ReactOS rev 72050):

[ external image ]

However, until there I got an error when I tried to join the network Freenode...

For the current revision of quassel, I read that:
Starting with 0.12.3, we automatically generate our Windows builds using Appveyor CI. Please let us know if there are issues with these new-fangled builds!
Maybe that's why I got the error above.

If it works on Windows (XP or 2003) and doesn't on ReactOS, it's our fault, not the application's.

Hello,

To be honest, I didn't remember if it worked on WinXP. For sure, it worked on W7 32 bits.
I'll try to find in my archives a WinXP in order to try if it works on it.

It's not ReactOS fault!

After testing on Windows XP, I got the same error with the last version (0.12.4):

[ external image ]

So I tried the version 0.12.2 and I got an error when I tried to join a channel:

[ external image ]

Even if I got this error, I really joined the channel (seen in kvirc) but i can't read and write a message on Quassel:

[ external image ]

So, we can't use it to go on IRC even on WinXP.

Edit: I corrected one of my sentence because it was not clear ^^

If that IRC client was built using VS 2013 or newer by default the compiled PE does not work on XP, you have to manually specify targeting XP.
