You have introduced an extra nil in your date.
-uses Ubuntu+GNOME 3 GNU/Linux
-likes Free (as in freedom) and Open Source Detergents
-favors open source of Windows 10 under GPL2

Timo, that thread was from almost a decade ago. The person who actually asked about the patents did so in a different thread.

I don't understand...the exceptions manager in the compilers are protected by a patent?

A little Slashdot necromancy revealed this uk.builder.com article from 2005. That article by Ingrid Mason summarizes the patent's effects on Wine development.
