Faster development of ReactOS... (proposal)
I was thinking of a way to develp ReactOS faster.. and came up with the following ideas:
1. Learn c/c++, learn RFC's, Windows API etc... however because I don't program for a living, so it's gonna be some long years before I could contribute to this project (personal)
2. Try to get some sponsering, so some developpers have more time to develop the OS... (caveat: you'll need a lot of money)
After evaluating the above, I came up with a third idea:
Would it be possible to hire some developers from: India, Russio, Romenia, Poland, Lituaenia... to help the current developers?
I don't now the actual wages in those countries, but combined with (2. Sponsorship), it might be possible to get some dedicated developpers working at Reactos... also we would be helping out some people earning some decent wages.
BTW, working late myself now and then I understand the offers current developers are making and I do find, that they also should deserve some financial compensation, if only to buy the Mrs. some flowers or spend a weekend away (quality time)....

I have voted for a better Developer Documentation.
The reason why i have voted for it is becouse in the World exist a lot of
People how would like to help to contribute new and better Source Code
for the ReactOS project so it can grow faster and be better.
The only problem for this People why they don't can help with new and better SourceCode at the Moment is the knoweledge level which ReactOS need.
I itself would like at the moment to programm the Reactos Boot Loader more better and more user Frendly becouse i need it at the moment.
I have searched now more than Three Days about some Information about this Reactos Boot Loader.
The result is i have found nothing the hole search was waste of Time.
It would be great to have a developer Site with development Information
like the Mozilla Project does have this for Firefox.
I like the Developer Page of Mozilla a lot.
If reactos could have such a thing then Reactos could grow very fast and
can became more user friendly.
From my side of view ReactOS need a professional Developer Center
like Mozila Firfox does have this.
The Wiki thing for development is not really a very professional thing.
Here is the developer Page of Mozila FireFox.
This things Rocks
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Main_Page
For example if somebody want to know how to use and re programm the new Cashing function of FireFox then here is the hole knoweledge for that thing.
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Us ... .5_caching
I would like to see such a thing for example now for the Boot Loader of ReactOS.

You don't believe me? Then visit the following links:

The Mozilla Developer Center is based on the MediaWiki (like our ReactOS Wiki and Wikipedia) system!Soft-ICE-Crack wrote:The Wiki thing for development is not really a very professional thing.
I am currently working on the "ReactOS Support Database". My plan is to create a web system that consist of one big database with 4 sections:
* Compatibility(Applications and Driver)
* Packages
* Developer Network (a kind of MSDN for ReactOS)
* Media
You can find some information about the Support Database here:
http://www.reactos.org/wiki/index.php/Support_Database
http://www.reactos.org/wiki/index.php/S ... creenshots
Please write your suggestion, ideas, etc. to the related wiki or (website sub-)forum pages, thanks.
I am no use for ROS but i try to help out testing my fav. stuff or at the Wiki....
I try to even keep th spirit of devs. up...but i end up asking very noobish questions....
As for promoting i aint done anything.... I am waiting for the respectie games or anything else of the forums i visit To wwork on ROS and then i will let out the news!

ReactOS Support Database
I think it's Frik:ing good (as always when you do something), this would help a lot!frik85 wrote:I am currently working on the "ReactOS Support Database". My plan is to create a web system that consist of one big database with 4 sections:

That's garbage. Most people I've heard telling me this, are C/C++ zealots that have never used VB.Davethewave wrote:I've tried learning languages but the best I ever got was VB...which I always hear is not a good one to go with.
IMHO VB is a very good language to start with, because it's easy to learn and it hides the complicated things. So you won't lose motivation as fast as with C++ or ASM. You shouldn't write drivers, performance-critical apps or very large products in (classic) VB, but it does the job it was designed for quite well.
The language you are using doesn't reveal much about your skills. I've been programming in VB5/6 for 7 years before I switched to C++ (because classic VB wasn't developed anymore and .net has not yet been convincing enough). In this time I was able to help C/C++ programmers uncountable times (and I do not only mean beginners;)). Of course they also helped me a lot.

~tools of the damned part the first~ ( lol )
anyone else seen the OpenSolaris CodeBrowser? if you havent check it out at www.opensolaris.org evne if it means nothing but jiberish to you, its a highly intuitive navigation and organisational system that gives tremendous power compared to any other online code viewing system ive ever seen, I dont know what the backend n frontend of it are, but if they can be used with reactos, i think it would make things a lot easier on the noob programers trying to work out whats what inside the internals.
im just imagining a ReactOS themed codebrowser and thumbing through the code fun

yes Patchworks thats what i meant. but a better link is one inside the actual source view of a file so you can see how it automaticaly cross refreces and links functions between libraries
http://cvs.opensolaris.org/source/xref/ ... on/kstat.c
EDIT
And what do you know now a little later i dig up the info behind it
http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/chanda ... ce_browser
Its not exactly the simple tool i was expecting, but for a spagheti code/tool setup thats a might impressive job of automation and useability lol
Armed with that im sure there are some people now pondering how to do it ... theres gotta be at least 1 of you now
EDIT THE SECOND
no sooner do i turn my head than i stumble over this!
Ladies and gentlemen, i give you the OpenSolaris Code Browser, In Open Source form.
OpenGrok
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/opengrok/
*wants this on the reactos CVS now*
