font substitution

Post by katayama_hirofumi_mz » Sun Jul 04, 2010 4:44 am

Hello, I'm a Japanese programmer, Katayama Hirofumi MZ.

I have some questions about font substitution on ReactOS.

1. How is font substitution working?
2. Can the user change it after install?

Many Japanese users want to change font substitution
after install, FYI.

Thank you.

Hi,
Check media\inf\font.inf for fonts substitutions.
Take a look at bug 3483 also for some hints.
Regards.

Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes
ReactOS:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SysFontSubstitutes

Why different?

ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

I'm not an expert, but from what I've gathered, it seems that FontSubstitues is Windows default key to define substitute typeface names for fonts. See Reg Font Entries.
While SysFontSubstitues is ROS specific, and it's used to Replace Windows default fonts with our alternative fonts. FontSubstitutes seems to be missing in ROS so I'd say it's not been implemented yet.
