Hangs too early to debug?

Post by PeterLinuxer »

I have a little problem with ReactOS:

It doesn't boot to the boot-menu. So I can't choose the option "debug" or "log file".

It is possible to debug to a serial connection so early in the boot process?

Greetings
Peter

There are three stage to a full installation, so how far do you get? See this for a guide to the stages.
When you start the installation (stage one), the debug info starts automatically as soon as the OS is loaded into memory.
Please keep the Windows classic 9x/2000 look and feel.

I guess I wasn't specific enough:
The installation from BootCD didn't cause any problem. But the installed ROS on first partition of HD doesn't boot at all!
It hangs on the very beginning of stage 2. Then screen goes black and there is a text cursor blinking in the top-left corner.
I don't get a boot menu!

Try re-installing. Don't give up at the first attempt. You may find that you are successful on the third attempt.

Otherwise we would need to rebuild a install medium with freeldr debugging enabled.
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.
