new Reactos explorer is already working on windows yet, but it doesn't in ReactOS. There are many parts of shell32, user32 and other that are not complete, but required for working of explorer_new.

If I recall correctly, I actually ran explorer_new on my Windows 7 installation, but it's IMHO useless in it's current state because of lack of required functionalities.

To run explorer-new in NT6 you need to comment out a line, because the ShellDDEInit function is not supported anymore. If you want to run it alongside of the standard explorer, then you also have to comment out other bits.

These are the changes I made to explorer.c for debugging purposes: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/743 ... er.c.patch

EDIT: Keep in mind, it's still not quite working correctly yet.

Why reinvent the wheel ?

It would be less trouble to adapt an already developed shell such as this => http://www.classicshell.net
that has it's own dedicated support team. http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewt ... =19&t=2975

It has been explained multiple times in multiple blog threads already: the goal is to recreate the original windows shell components, so that 3rdparty programs using those interfaces can work at all. We already have a working non-comformant shell, but the team wants "the real thing", which is what I'm working on.

The fabulous decision path diagram mf drew in the post Read this if you've found software useful to ReactOS is missing.

@gigaherz:

1. Thanks - I guess its a huge task to code the new explorer.
2. Thanks in advance - Because after finishing "the real thing" it would be great if you would improve the classical explorer. I'm hoping that you have some ideas.
