Install Problem "Hard Disk Not Found"

Post by doomy666999 » Mon Oct 03, 2005 9:02 pm

I have downloaded the ISO image and burnt a CD using it, when i boot up my pc with the disk in the drive i boot from the CD, the setup process begins but then i get an error message saying that the hard disk cannot be detected.

a few possible causes i shal suggest below:

- i am running on a SATA hard disk
- the hard disk is not formatted
- the hard disk is partitioned into 3 sections
- the total hard disk size is 80GB
- i have no operating system currently on the disk

other than that i am not sure what could cause it...please give me your oppinions on the matter as soon as possible, i really need to get my pc working again.

below is my system specs:

P4 3.0Ghz
ASUS P5P800 Motherboard
BFG Tech GeForce FX 5500 256MB OC

If I remember correctly, SATA isn't supported by ReactOS yet. So this may be the problem... Try with IDE drive if you've got one.
edit: For the first you can also try the livecd.

Yes, the SATA drive is the problem.

are there any plans for SATA support in the near future?

Most of the SATA controllers need a driver from the manufacturer. The goal is to have support for 'hit F6 for an additional driver diskette' during install. Currently, it is possible to install ReactOS on a SATA disk, if the NT4.0 driver works in ReactOS and if ReactOS is prepared like the description on the wiki ... rt_drivers .
