Getting files "into" ReactOS on VMware Player

Post by multimolti » Wed May 13, 2009 3:06 pm

Hi
I wanted to test a little app I wrote in ReactOS. I have VMware Player 2.5.2 installed and are running the latest ROS release (3.9.x).
But how can I get my file into the player? Just copy & paste didn't work (actually I didn't expect that to work). Shared folders aren't working as well, and since I can't get networking to run, I can't share it using Windows shared folders as well.
How can I get my file into the VMware player running ReactOS?

Hi, you should try to do some searching before posting, this has been asked several times.
Neither shared folders nor SMB will work.
Use vmware server instead of the player, it's much better and it's free.
See this thread (i.e.) for hints.

Okay thanks, I searched google but not this forum. VMware server is so big, why is the player not enough?

I haven't said it's not enough, I haven't tried it, my guess is it should work.
There are several ways to do what you want, my advice in your case is: upload your file to some filesharing service, like megaupload, 4shared, rapidshare.de, etc. install Firefox 2.X in ros and download your file from the sharing link.

@gabrielilardi:
As I wrote in my post earlier, I can't use my network connection, so I won't be able to download files from the internet...

Create an ISO with InfraRecorder (or others) and mount it on your virtual machine.
InfraRecorder:
1) Data disc (or File > New Project > Data Disc)
2) Add your files
3) Actions > Burn Compilation > to a Disc Image...

I'm sorry, I don't have the time to download and try vmware player (so I can't help you with it). I've searched in the forum and it should work. If you can't manage to get it working I'd advice you to switch to virtual box.

Which configuration are u using?
Nat or Bridge?
Set it to NAT,and you should have network automatically.

@vicmarcal:
Yes, I have network when switching to NAT, but when I try to configure it correctly, it won't work any more. My home network is kinda weird, I am using my second router as W-LAN card for my desktop PC and thus everything is a bit complicated.
I need to set the IP settings as follows:
IP address: 192.168.2.x
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.2.1
Prefered DNS-Server: 192.168.2.1
Any other setting won't let me connect to the internet. When I just leave the ReactOS settings as they are, I can ping my first router (192.168.2.1) without any problems, but as soon as I enable the correct settings, I won't be able to ping anything in my network.

Okay, this is so typical: After posting the last entry, I did all the steps again, and now it works -.- Thanks for your help anyway, I will share my stuff using the network now.

If anyone else has this problem:
Just restart the virtual machine 10x and set up your connection stuff after every restart, after some time it will work. For me, the easiest way to get files into the virtual machine is by running Apache (XAMPP) on the host machine (Windows XP) and then browsing to its IP in ReactOS.
