SVN-Builds, last one known to work on real hardware

Post by videlux »

Hi,
is there anybody who succeeded in installing a recent SVN-build on real hardware?
Which SVN-version?

Still waiting on 0.3.5 I would like to make another test, but going back to february (0.3.4) is not so attracting any more.

I remember, once having read an article concerning the same question together with a proposal to collect such experiences on a certain forum-page or website. But I cannot find it anymore.

everyone's real hardware is different, so an answer to this question probalbly won't be relevant for you.
Best thing is to try the latest SVN build from here http://www.reactos.org/getbuilds

Is there a possible way to use USB keyboard / mouse with ReactOS? I have heard something like a setting in the BIOS so it "looks like" PS/2 ?

That depends on your BIOS. My Gateway BIOS can say that a USB Floppy is Drive A: And is a valid non-USB piece of equipment. But ROS says it can't detect the floppy USB even though the BIOS says it's there as a non-USB device (automatically)

The floppy driver has been broken for quite some time now.

Is it planned to be fixed for 0.3.5?

No. None of the developers have volunteered to fix it.

So everyone wants just flash drive support, USB to other device (Camera, PSP, etc.) support? Doesn't make much sense since the ROS should be able to be used on low end machines, which some people have who still use Floppies.

Simply a matter of what the developers consider to be their personal priorities, of which I doubt anyone here will be able to change. And this isn't an "easy" fix, as it would require writing a new floppy driver.

*braaamp* Okay that's JUST like Pidgin! Pidgin Developers said, "Ohhh, let's take out manual resizing of the chat input! No one will complain since AIM does that too! Hee hee." Guess what, lots and LOTS of people complained.

Unlike Pidgin, we're willing to accept a fix, if someone actually makes a correct one. This is simply none of the present devs devoting any time to the issue.

Almost all OS I have seen (not linux 0.10) have a working floppy driver.
I had problems when reactos did not write the boot sector to hdd and floppy.
Also the VGA driver is broken,SCSI seems not to work.USB stick problems
could be in the storage drivers too,Xbox seems not to run, same on PPC.
I think that all this will not be repaired in the next release.
You could imagine all the problems that you will have running problematic
games (like FF VII) on reactos in the near future.

Its not such a problem to write your own floppy driver. It IS a problem to write NT-compatible floppy driver. If you think otherwise... well:
we accept patches

Way to break it for Microsoft.
