Drivers, in general

Post by mrmrmrkevin »

Is ReactOS really designed to support all kinds of NT drivers? What is the difference between, say, a soundcard driver written for windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, or even Vista? If I install ROS (in the future, final release), will any of these work just as well as the rest? Also, today, which driver am I most likely to get good results with in ROS?

ReactOS is to be using all windows NT - family drivers. This means no 9x drivers (those with VxD). At the moment i think that network drivers work best. Others are depending on some incomplete parts of the kernel so there may be problems with them. Vista driver model is of a distant future.

So if I have a windows 2000 driver and an XP driver for the same hardware, either will work, so just choose the latest one?
