Whatfor is that ?
Can I try it with the actual SVN bootCD 25399 ?
Yes. It is normal driver with small change.

Use for testing with ReactOS2.iso.7z.
I installed WinISO and put this blue.sys into the test-ISO.

On both PCs (AsRock-mainboard with AMD+1500 and old one, ALI biostar-mainboard with MMX 200) the letter "T" ends up in black screen, without "invalid sync" - OKAY !
(I first tried some other letters starting from "A", all give this result = black screen, synchronized)

I was able to also test the ISO on the slow PC:
FAST pressing the letter ("A" or so ..) and then "RETURN" (when "press any key to boot from CD .." appears). So I managed to test the ISO also on the slow PC ..

Slow PC: In the moment Your input "window" appears, the keyboard does not respond anymore, no input possible (another bug ..) .. too late ..

... deleted accidenlty .. I'm sorry !

...
.. On MMX200 / biostar mainboard:
************************
Screen gets black and "Welcome to ReactOS Setup" does NOT appear ..

On mainboard I440BX-SMC93X-2A69KN0AC (PII 400):
****************************************
.. the same

On mainboard with KT133 K7 (Duron 650):
*******************************
.. the same

On the last one, LED of HD-access stays ON at the end. (I didn't look at that on the other two "old" PCs)

I first tried with actual - unmodified - release of bootCD-dbg 25399, just to be sure: still "invalid sync" (I think You would expect that .. ?)
There was no changes in blue.sys last time.
Then I tried this ISO with Your modified BLUE.SYS:
"Welcome to ReactOS Setup" - screen appears correctly - congratulations !
Patch -> Bugzilla already.
Screen gets black and "Welcome to ReactOS Setup" does NOT appear ..
This bug is more difficult, I think. There is no indication where something goes wrong.

I did boot the unmodified ISO just to be absolutely sure that nothing has changed since failing ISO 24390 .. paranoid, I know .. :-)

Too few words .. what do You mean ?

Well, first thank You very much for working together !

But, whom can I ask ? My old bug in bugzilla #1742 ("Can't boot LiveCD, error 0x00000000") does not lead to anything as I mentioned "LiveCD". And LiveCD is already broken at the moment as far as I know. (I did never test the bootCD (last summer) because I thought, well if liveCD doesn't boot why should I try installation ??!)

But it looks to me like the failure of LiveCD - on my old PCs - is also that of BootCD (I don't know what all has changed in the source code since release 0.3.0 so it may have totally different reasons ..)

What do You think - shall I open a new bugzilla bug ? Perhaps there's someone doing the debug with me as You did here on blue.sys... ?

I mean patch to blue.sys already in bugzilla. Devs should commit or reject it.
Well, first thank You very much for working together !
Thank You for help.
My old bug in bugzilla #1742 ("Can't boot LiveCD, error 0x00000000") does not lead to anything as I mentioned "LiveCD".
I think that bug is obsolete. That bugcheck in IoCreateArcNames() do not exist now.
And LiveCD is already broken at the moment as far as I know. (I did never test the bootCD because I thought, well if liveCD doesn't boot why should I try installation ??!)
LiveCDs are broken now because OS tries to write modified registry back on CD. Installed OS can successfully write it on hard disk.
What do You think - shall I open a new bugzilla bug ?
Which one?
Perhaps there's someone doing the debug with me as You did here on blue.sys... ?
There's too much work and too few people... :-(

Well, the title of this thread is "ReactOS does not run on older computers"
and the last status was:

Bug should be reported to Bugzilla.

Yet another blue.sys: http://www.5748.nm.ru/iso/test/
Use for testing with ReactOS2.iso.7z.

It should write a letter to the screen at each stage. Try to boot with letter "U" first.
Slow PC: In the moment Your input "window" appears, the keyboard does not respond anymore, no input possible (another bug ..) .. too late ..
You can also try to use new setupldr.sys from that place.

good news: bootcd-25427-dbg will get to the second stage, however the progressbar on bootvid does not seem to work, and after a while it black screens. (P4, 767MB ram)

Well, something went wrong - I got again "invalid sync" with BLUE.SYS from 11.01.2007 ..

So I didn't try "new setupldr.sys" ...

*******************************

I tried BootCD 24530 and Your bugfix is ok.
Also on broken LiveCD 24530 the ReactOS Bitmap does appear correcty now ..

As i heard, progressbar is intentionally disabled.
and after a while it black screens.
I have the same problem. http://www.reactos.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1901

Probably several bugs point in the same direction (but may not have the same reasons ..)

For example bug
http://www.reactos.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1966
?

I will test Your SYS drivers in about 10 hours when I'm back home.
