Can't set IP Address

Post by toml_12953 »

I'm running release 11 under VirtualBox. The networking doesn't work. When I try to set DHCP rather than a static address, the choice isn't saved. If I try to set an IP address and gateway, it isn't saved, either. The network icon in the System Tray still has a red mark on it.
Also, even if I do get it working, I see no browser anywhere. How would I load one?

You're using very outdated release, switching to latest or even better to a daily build should fix these problems.

Use Applications Manager to download a browser supported by ReactOS.

Welcome toml_12953 and thank you for giving ReactOS a try.

I'm not a super-expert on ReactOS and I know little about its networking support. But one of the super-smart developer team members (devs) will probably see your support request soon. The devs that see your request will probably ask you to:
  • Identify the exact version, nightly build, or release of ReactOS.
  • Identify the exact version of Virtual Box.
  • Identify any Virtual Box add ons you are using.
  • Identify Virtual Box's host operating system.
  • Identify the physical network card on your machine and the Virtual Box virtual network card you are using.
  • Describe your Virtual Box set up.
Your questions were specific and you described the problems you saw well. Now the community and devs need to know how to reproduce your problem on their own computers. Again, thank you for trying ReactOS.

If I can't get networking working, how do I download a browser?

Which OS did you make the VM for. Select Windows 2003 for creation.
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Release date of 0.4.11 was 2019-03-03.... I wonder where ppl get these outdated ISOs from.

Oh come on. CAPS LOCK IS MY TOY! you said release 11 and that's it. Check forums and then you will not wonder why ppl ask once more. There are ppl who don't understand that the 0. belongs to the frigging version number out of a reason. Some show up demanding that we fix build of some 0.2.x releases with modern compilers and some really really use 3 years old versions to report bugs. So, sorry for the misunderstanding, but as you see.... things are difficult here ^^

Anything 0.4.13 is not a fresh release either. Use daily builds.

OK, I'm using 04.15-dev-1636 which looks like the latest daily build as of Jan 23 2021. The same problem happens. No Internet connection and it won't allow me to set a static IP address and gateway. Now I also get an error about not being able to install Gecko (?) from the network. Of course since there's no IP address, it can't connect to any networks or the Internet.

Now what?

The red mark usually means the network cable is disconnected (either real or emulated).

True but Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 all work with this same network setup in VirtualBox. Only ReactOS has a problem.

hi
1 what operating system are you using?
2 what version of VirtualBox are you using?
3 what is the setting of your ReactOS VM?
4 in the ReactOS VM setting what is the adapter type set to and Attached to set to?
5 is VirtualBox properly installed?

Do Windows XP or Server 2003 work with that same network setup?
