Animated Gif on boot screen

Post by minecraftchest1 »

I would like to add an animation to my reactos boot screen, but I do not know how to do so in code, neither do I desire to learn. Could I do so via a gif file, or by changing the image every x ms, ordinary I need to do so in code.

It's not exactly as easy as replacing a GIF somewhere.

Check out this commit: https://github.com/reactos/reactos/comm ... ce3ffb371a

Then read this file: https://github.com/reactos/reactos/blob ... nbv/inbv.c

And pay close attention to variables with words like "ROT_BAR" - that's the animated progress bar thingy.

EDIT: Ayyy, this is my 500th post in the forum! Woot!

Any code that would allow me to simply spin an image beneath another?

One does not simply make a GIF for animation and pretend that magically it'll work in ReactOS, at least not with how the boot video is implemented. You've to familiarize yourself how the Inbv module works in the kernel and from there you can add your own code to handle the animation for other resources.

Although it's worth noting that the current state of Inbv as it stands there's no support for dynamic boot video interfaces (which it can be changed through a registry key or whatever) therefor you've to edit the existing code of the current boot video that is used.

Ok. No gif files. So code an animation in code, or draw multible images on top of each other. Can I do the latter?
