BSOD when installing Guest Additions

I am trying to install React OS 0.4.10 on VirtualBox 6.0.2 (on Mac Host OS).

I have followed the wiki page on installing React OS on VirtualBox (windows).

My VM configuration is

Version: Windows 2003 (32 bit)
Base Memory: 512MB
Enable IO/APIC is unchecked
Video memory is 16MB
Live CD/DVD unchecked (I am using a boot cd)
Scale factor 200%
Network Adapter Type: PCnet-FAST III

But when I try to install VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe, I am getting BSOD with error message
BAD_POOL_CALLER

Is ReactOS compatible with VirtualBox 6 Guest Additions?

This is a bug in VBox.
See https://jira.reactos.org/browse/CORE-15446
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/18187

For now I suppose you can either use an older version or not install Guest Additions.

Thank you for sharing the links. In the JIRA issue it is mentioned that release build of ROS should work.

Isn't the following a release build?

If someone wanted to install a checked build of Windows XP or Server 2003, in order to demonstrate that this problem affects Windows too, where would we be able to get a checked build from?

You can download the checked build of SP3/SP2 and just use the checked kernel+hal extracted from it -- http://www.osronline.com/article.cfm?article=14
2003 SP2:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... px?id=3685
Can't immediately find a download for XP SP3.

MSDN subscriptions also (used to?) offer full checked build ISO files.

Interesting. I was hoping to be able to install a full checked build, but unless someone can find a full install iso for a checked build, I guess I'll have to go with the slightly more complicated partial checked build setup.
Anyway, thank you. The information on the osronline page you linked describes the partial checked build installation well enough that I think I should be able to do it.

Out of curiosity, does ReactOS and/or FreeLoader support the /kernel=filename and /hal=filename boot parameters?
Could this method be used to test booting ReactOS with the Windows kernel & hal, and/or booting Windows with the ReactOS kernel & hal?
If so, has anyone tried this?

Really, installing a partial checked build is faster than a full one... the lack of compiler optimization makes the whole system quite slow.

I believe ROS supports those arguments... but you could also test a mixed setup by just replacing the files of course. Windows won't boot with ROS's kernel (requires unimplemented functionality, but also our PNP subsystem is too messed up to work with MS's drivers); I don't remember what happens when giving ROS a Windows kernel (but I think it'll likely fail to work with our win32k).

Eventually this kind of testing should be possible though, right?
I'll have to try it some time to see what happens.

Anyway, I don't mean to derail this thread. I'll try to set up a partially checked Windows install and see if I can duplicate the VBox Guest Additions error that started this discussion.

Well, I have downloaded https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... 129123.iso from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds
and works without problems right now without necessity to wait for official VirtualBox 6.0.5 release.

Link not working a few minutes ago.
:(

Guess I will watch some college basketball to get in the March Madness mode, and put my ROS experimenting aside for now.

That ISO link is old now, you'll have to go to the testbuilds page and download the new test build of the guest additions iso if you want to do this.
Note, these are test builds, and may include other changes and/or bugs.
