Trying to run Monero 64 bit wallet

Post by Hueristic »

I'm running 4.6 in a Vmware environment and when I try to launch the compiled binary's from Getmonero.org I receive an error "not a valid 32bit application" ReactOs is 64bit Correct? I'm pretty positive it is. Do I have to add Dll's? Sorry about the N00b questions but I really want to make a secure VM image for Monero for the community that cannot use Nix.

direct link to the binary page:

https://getmonero.org/downloads/

Direct link to the source:

https://github.com/monero-project/monero

Should I just compile on ReactOS? I havn't compiled since the early 90's so I'd rather not throw another variable into the mix.

First, you have chosen the wrong Forum! You should have posted to the Support forum! This is not a forum for requesting help!

Now to answer you:

The release 0.4.6 is a 32 bit operating system, as are the Daily Builds, so if you want to try to run any software in ReactOS, it will have to have been compiled for a 32 bit Windows XP or Server 2003 operating system.

If you have any further questions, please use the Support forum.

Thank you.
Please keep the Windows classic 9x/2000 look and feel.
The layman's guides - debugging - bug reporting - compiling - ISO remaster.
They may help you with a problem, so do have a look at them.

Thank you for the quick response, I noticed that as soon as I had posted and reported my own thread to get it towed.

So just so I am clear on this, There are NO 64bit versions of ReactOS?

Hi, Hueristic
Here, see this.
It seems there is no iso for 64 bit architecture.
( I am talking about amd64 not IA64 )

Thank you, I was going from this page but it looks like it stalled somewhere along the line.

https://reactos.org/wiki/AMD64

what is this?

latest-x64-msvc-win-dbg

Those are iso files.
But I don't think that they have any Graphical User Interface.
If they were suitable for regular testing then they would be listed in the link that I posted in my previous post.
Oh. They are special builds. If you go to irc then you will see that builds are created frequently to test if a patch or commit breaks any already working part of ReactOS.
So they are development builds.
It is quite similar to testing after every update in code.
Even they are not bad if they were x86 versions.
But those are x64 bit which is not as good as current x86 bit version of ReactOS.
Try them if you like.
Only try in virtual environment.

VM Player does not recognize that file as a iso, I also tried to convert it to iso with no luck. I think maybe you have .dbg mixed up with .dmg? I think it may me a MSVC Debug file but I have no clue how to run that in vmware?

I think maybe those files should not be in the livecd list and are dump files that cannot be used to run?

If you are on windows and using 7zip then try to open it with 7zip and post results.
Also see the archive info.

Thanks for that! When I tried to use 7-zip with "open with" I got error "unsupported command" from 7-zip but when I opened it from within 7-zip the file extracted to a iso file fine.

Now I cannot open the iso file it starts to load in vmware and gets to the live cd choices but then it locks up even if i try safe mode command prompt the iso still locks up so I guess I quit. :)

Thanks alot for all the help though. :)

Hueristic: No no. Thank you for trying ReactOS.
Have fun with 32 bit version of ReactOS.
If you can get something new to run on ReactOS then post on EPIC WIN!.
Never quit on ReactOS!

Devs: Well someone needs to rename
'latest-x64-msvc-win-dbg'
to
'latest-x64-msvc-win-dbg.7z'
or
'latest-x64-msvc-win-dbg.zip'
Depending on what file it actually is.
