I would like to use reactos in a virtualbox but...

Post by zapper »

I need to know how to transfer files from host to guest, or at least to be able to use cd roms in guest mode.

Would anyone know how to do that?

for the cdrom is pretty easy
if you run the virtual machine in a window and not full mode
then go to to devices first option is the cdrom go there
you can either give access to the natural cdrom or you can load an iso file , that will appear as a cdrom with that cd inside when you start the machine

for transferring files
when you install the reactos in the device menu is an option insert quest additions image
use it and install the virtual box additions
close the virtual machine
go the the settings of the machine
there is an option called shared folder
there declare a folder or a whole partition that you want the virtual machine to see

start the virtual machine again
and now you will see from inside the react os that folder and you can take files from that locations inside the react os

was that helpful?

You can also transfer files via USB in a similar way to the CD ROM.

If you're on Windows 7 or later, and if you make the disk image a .vhd, Windows 7 can mount it as a separate drive (while VBox is NOT running) and you can transfer files between just like copying between drives.

Actually on second thought,

Do you know how to do it through qemu? that might be more long term effective for me.

I was wanting to try installing a certain windows 95 game from my childhood. ;)

I am using a lenovo x200 with an external cd rom device underneath it.

Any Thoughts if this is workable or how I could get it to work?

I am using virt-manager through qemu... at the moment.

Although you should know I am using a form of coreboot for my computer so v-t hardware acceleration is of no interest to me.

Last time I tried it didn't work though--- it could be because I was using an old version of virtualbox to avoid making my system crash using the virtualization hardware acceleration module.
