How to build Arwinss?

Post by Pi_User5 »

I was wondering how to compile Arwinss now. The guide on the wiki is outdated because the project now uses ninja instead of cmake. If I could get new instructions on how to I could go the wiki page and update. I was wondering how I could also get the X forwarding thing to work.

Errrr... ninja is an alternative make. CMake is still in use... arwinss is a branch. Take it and build it. Boom
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

ARWINSS has been dead according to the JIRA activity.
-uses Ubuntu+GNOME 3 GNU/Linux
-likes Free (as in freedom) and Open Source Detergents
-favors open source of Windows 10 under GPL2

I don't think that it is dead yet! Remember it is one of the co-ordinators pet projects and it was updated with trunk in the middle of 2014.

It's not dead, just on hold. We have stuff to do to get the ROS subsystem in shape right now. ARWINSS is another try to get this done, but a non WIndows compatible one.

I downloaded the source code into my ReactOS source code folder in a folder called Arwinss. So my reactos folder looks like:

Arwinss
base
boot
cmake
...

In my arwinss folder it looks like:
client
freetype
include
...

I'm still confused on how to build it. I ran configure but what should I do after that?

I have never build arwinss myself so I don't know exactly, but I guess you first have to put the arwinss folder into your trunk folder as you have mentioned. After that, you have to apply trunk.diff.
You than can build it as usual, but you may have to define some variable first to say that it should include the arwinss components (or a command line parameter or so).
As said, this is just a guess and I don't know if this is the correct way to build it.

I wish that someone would post a definitive answer to the OP's question, because I would also like to build it from source.

The last commit into the arwinss branch was Monday 13 Oct 2014, where Aleksey Bragin made it compilable again.

Me too. I'm going to IRC to ask.

IRC was no help at all.

I just checked it out and TortiseSVN spit out a bunch of rejected hunks from the patch. I wonder if Arwinss will even work with the new explorer.

The man that knows how to compile it, is Aleksey Bragin; but he very very rarely comes here. You do IRC, so why not ask there how to contact him!

I think that Forever Winter is about right, but I need more detail than that, to be able to successfully compile it.

well you
1- checkout ROS tree.

2- get the contents of branches/arwinss/ (svn://svn.reactos.org/reactos/branches/arwinss)

3- copy it inside your /trunk/reactos

4- apply the trunk.diff
(and pray it applies correctly, here fixouts may be done)

5- rerun configure

6- compile....
