Samba-TNG Package

Post by Pi_User5 »

I keep seeing a package called Samba-TNG. What does it do and how would I go about using it? Thanks!

It's a SMB implementation packed in a console app. You can ONLY use it to transfer stuff and do SMB print by console commands...
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes

Samba TNG provide ms networking services like network shares, etc.

It was ported to Reactos and is available in rapps, but it's not integrated with the system.

You can't use it in a transparent way as part of the O.S.

There is a serious collaboration between the two projects,

If you're brave enough to try it out, you'd best try connecting to an NT4 or 2000 file server. With newer file servers, you'd have to tweak down a lot of security settings for sure.

NT4 is not SMB, it's CIFS. Generally SMBv2 and SMBv2.1 are more or less downwards compatible to v1 from Win 2000, so up to Win7 should/could work, too. But try it and you will see ^^

I used it to connect to a Samba 3 share and I also transferred a file from the shared folder.

It needs way more than a implementation in explorer. It's a file system driver and some more stuff needed. User account support need the last polishing too first.

Nope. And nobody so far works on it...

EDIT (after vicmarcal's comment): "nobody so far works on SAMBA integration" :)
EDIT 2: About ROS 0.4 release: when devs will be happy with its stability, after explorer_new merging and other things vicmarcal mentioned in his answer.

Ein?Nobody works in 0.4?
Gigaherz is pushing explorer-new...
ThFabba is fixing the CC...
Zefklop is fixing the MM...
GonzoMd is preparing the new Community design...
I see at least 4 working for the 0.4...
