Network Card Requsion

Post by Jessey »

I have noticed that reactos no longer works in virtualbox, I tried the latest image 0.3.16 and the issue was still there, tried to make a jira report, but it requires and admin to allow accounts. https://jira.reactos.org/secure/Dashboard.jspa The jira and the forum accounts are not linked, some thing that is a pain if an issue arises. I was useing virtualbox 4.3.10 ubuntu on LM 17.

Hardware: compaq presario cq57-339wm notebook pc
original os: windows 7
host os: LM 17 xfceo
VM: virtualbox
quest os; Reactos 3.16
Issue first noticed in: reactos 3:14 reckusion, used to work, now the network drivers or not dectected as whell as the audio and wine gekko fails to donwload, becuase of network issue (still stupid that they don't include it just to save some compileing time(found in reactos mailing list)
closed source drivers for windows and more info for devs:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... lc=en#N422,http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prod ... c=en&lc=en,http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manu ... c=en&lc=en, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... t=5173039&,
Display: Intell Intergrated HD graphics(modle unknown, Issue colors, and graphics don't display properly, defult background looks discolored and cuases sickness, and blue screens

Is that infomation about my hardware vicmarcal to make any sence where the recursion happened. I know that it worked in older versions of reactos.
If you want my advice, it is, go and find someone who sells corporate cast offs (every few years companies get rid of their computers and replace them with new ones). Seek out one that is from 2006 or older; if you want networking, then make sure that the network card or chip is a Realtek rtl8139, then the driver that comes with Ros will work. As for video, the vesa driver that comes with Ros always works good enough for me, but I have found situations where it would have been good to have had the proper video drivers for the motherboard installed.

My network card is build in and buying/hunting down said computer is not one of my options, but it is nice to know if I ever could aford to get a pc just to run reactos.

Reason: When a thread is locked, the problem ends there. The thread was locked to prevent a drama, now I won't let it happens again: Edited accordingly.

One must log into JIRA separately from the ReactOS forum. JIRA will accept ones existing ReactOS.org forum credentials.

Hi Jessey!
Thanks for your report.
1)Please kindly check if your can log Jira with your current user please. Both systems are linked, if you're having issues I'll raise the problem to the Infra team. Retry because sometimes it takes a little to sync both databases.
2)Regarding your network issue, seems you are using 0.3.16. May you try:
http://iso.reactos.org/bootcd/bootcd-63904-dbg.7z

Please tell us if the issue gets fixed.

My network card is build in and ...................................................................
I know that these days a lot of motherboards have the network chip built onto the board, that is why wrote "network card or chip is a Realtek rtl8139".

............................. and buying/hunting down said computer is not one of my options, but it is nice to know if I ever could afford to get a pc just to run reactos.
The last computer that I bought (2 years ago, or so) from a seller of ex corporate computers, cost me £20 (£1 = $1.66 US or 1.25 Euro); so they do not cost a fortune!

My latest testing computer has nVidia chips; out of the 5 drivers, I can only install 2 (IDE and SBUS) without any problems, but the network driver will not install, instead I get an error message. When the error message appears, I open the Task Manager and kill the process that sent the error message, then the Ros driver install wizard opens, asking to install the network driver, so I point it to the relevant driver folder and it installs the driver.

Is that of any help to you?
Please keep the Windows classic (9x/2000) look and feel.
The layman's guides to - debugging - bug reporting - compiling - ISO remaster.
They may help you with a problem, so do have a look at them.

Requsion, reckusion. I think "regression" is what Jessey means.

None of the HP web pages Jessey linked provide sufficient information to determine his laptop's network adapter hardware. The most HP says about it is "Integrated 10/100 network interface card (NIC)".

Jessey can identify the laptop's network adapter by booting Windows XP on the laptop (assuming the adapter functioned under Windows XP) then choosing Start > Run... > devmgmt.msc [type] > OK [button]. Expand the list of Network adapters by choosing the [+] next to the Network adapters icon. The name of the network adapter hardware should appear.

Double-click the network adapter's icon and the adapter's property sheet should appear. The General tab on the property sheet that appears should reveal the network adapter's name, hardware manufacturer, and information about the PC's internal I/O port used by the adapter. The Driver tab should reveal the name and version of the adapter's driver software. These are key pieces of information required in order to begin resolving a network adapter problem. The same procedure will work with ReactOS if it can successfully load the network adapter's drivers.

I have no idea what most of this stuff means. :D :D :D :D :)

Ps I am not running windows as it states in the Oringinal Post. All Windows or in VB for classes ( cures you ms office 2010 :D :) :P  8-) :geek: :ugeek: :) ).
I hate that hp and intel don't make it easy to find out exactly what hardware that you have. It is a pain in the butt no matter what os you use. It took me three weeks just to find jthe wifi and networking dirvers for peats sake. I might hate Nvidia, but at least their crap works and their drivers are easy to find. Just go to thier website and boom you got the drivers you need and off you go.
