Hi there,
I'm unable to boot all live versions (incl. last actual livecd-62519-rel),
probably due to a problem with the bus master card, which is set to IRQ 05.
The same problem occurs on following notebooks:
Samsung NP-P200 I, Samsung NP-P400 Y, Samsung NP-P510, Asus eeepc 1201HA
I did not find any option in the bios to change the IRQ.
All bios soft switches i tested, had no impact.
Thanks in advance
Harry
EDIT
Subsystem: Unknown [144d:c042]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 05
I/O ports at 4000
Device is using IRQ 5! ISA Cards using that IRQ may fail!

Workaround for IRQ 05 problem?

Re: Workaround for IRQ 05 problem?
Hi almoni, and welcome to the forum!
I myself don't know anything about IRQ settings for ReactOS, so I can't help you there.
The Live versions aren't well tested/supported unfortunately. I don't think they give you any boot options either. Try a recent bootcd (if you're willing) and use the Boot(Screen) or Boot (Debug) option. If you don't want to risk losing data on your PC, you can always try USB installation (see the wiki). USB isn't terribly advanced either however.

Hi! The livecds give you a boot menu where you can select "LiveCD", or "LiveCD (Debug)" (to be used with serial), or "LiveCD (Screen)" (to show the debug log on the screen).
Re: Workaround for IRQ 05 problem?
Hello milon,
I will check the USB-Installation wiki.
Bonjour hbelusca,
Precisley what i did
From there i have the information about the IRQ 5 problem.
After all, ROS works fine on VirtualBox and some programs i implemented in the iso file with WinISO v5.3 also.
But i want ROS working outside VirtualBox and therefore is imo the best solution removing actual HD and try to
installation on a old harddisk, we talk about three screws to replace a notebook HD.

Re: Workaround for IRQ 05 problem?
Ok i was wrong, because there where four screws, not three
While i was booting from iso (bootcd-62541-rel) the system hangs at the setup screen.
Conclusion: Plan B fizzled out

Re: Workaround for IRQ 05 problem?
Any chance you can get a debug log out of it?
Re: Workaround for IRQ 05 problem?
Hello milon,
Off course it is reproducible, but a debug log without working HD and booting by CD seems quite difficult.
What i can do is make a pic of the screen and trying ocr.
Pls. give me a day or two...

Re: Workaround for IRQ 05 problem?
Hello milon,
Unfortunately the ocr of a picture will not work.
So i just can tell you that the complete hang is at setup screen “ReactOS 0.4 SVN Setup”, in the “Language Selection” part.
It doesn’t matter what bootcd iso file i use, the result is the same.
HD was properly partitioned and FAT32 formatted, and the BIOS “Bootsector Write Protection” was disabled.
If no one else have encountered this problem, it’s possibly a “Samsung” specific problem.
Regards
Harry
