TANGO! for Open Source desktop enhancement

Post by MadRat » Fri Oct 14, 2005 4:52 am

Question to ROS development team-

Do you know that an OSS project is underway for the beautification of open source programs and desktops?

This could potentially save your team alot of work in the areas of the GUI. I know you all have a graphics designer hard at work with the task of making icons, but some of this work is quite pleasing to the eyes. Here are the three development branches of the project:

Icon Library: http://tango-project.org/Tango_Icon_Gallery
Style Guidelines: http://tango-project.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines
Icon Naming Spec & Utilities: http://tango-project.org/Standard_Icon_ ... cification

Even if ROS did not take the Icon Naming and Theme guidance from the project, its still worth a look.

As far as I can see that project has a problem.

Icons really need to be done in stuff like svg.

Reason so we can swap to stuff like cairo. Leting vector rending.

Tango Progect icons are in SVG format. And idea to use these icons in ReactOS is great.

These icons are great for general users. They are clear, easy to see and look clean. I think they should be used.

At least the idea to unify open-source desktop and GUI is great :-)

I have taken a look at the tango project and think it is a great idea and believe ReactOS should consider this as an option. At a min, learn from it.

I have notice that the newest release of Ubuntu Linux is using many of these icons.

I think its a good idea to use some of the tango-icons.
I say "some" because some of the tango icons don't look good.

I like all the tango icons. Maybe its just me.

Would be really cool if you could implement either them or that general style into the OS. I have high hopes for this OS and it needs to look good in order to compete.

Well..... either lok good or be heavilly customisable.
