Cool, but there are too mutch "just cosmetic" effects in everyone...

Just a question: all the videos are made on the same machine ?

I personally think that Apple got it right with their Spaces+Eposé

Just a little animation that takes <1s to do something

Compiz is over the top. Effects are a goal there on its own not a thing to make life easier

Yup, agreed.
However, now that they've got the technology, they (or the peoples who make the distro's) can make the effects more subtle, disable a few... The main part is there now. :)

I prefer XGL/Beryl over XGL/Compiz. Granted compiz and beryl are pretty much the same thing, beryl is so much easier to manage, and disable some of the insane effects.

Vista on the other hand is visually nice, there are enhancements that are "suppose" to enhance productivity in the new gui, but when in reality it prohibits it, at least in the sense of a developer. (hmm...no wondering if microsoft was aiming for that goal  )

Personally, I would want to combine parts from all 3 desktops to make one perfect desktop as there are things from each one that I do and don't like.
