IMO they have a "linux" look that I wouldn't want to see in ROS...

I agree with Harteex. When I tried to get into Linux I found icons like this a real turnoff. I find it difficult to explain in words exactly why I hate them, I think maybe it's the overkill on lighting and reflection effects.

...well, i'm talking about "ICONSpacks" (or themes, if you like).

I mean: can we have an icon contest-like page(s) ?

i must say tahat will be nice to have those crystal icons as one of themes (not as default and in normal ico format)
but default icons should be clear and easy to recognise and one more they should be in only one style per theme :D not missing icons include from other themes :D (i know that many free themes are similar but not every and not in all points)

if anyone want to include some icons in os they should make complette theme set and make oficial vote
and one more wait for theming engine

Crystal icons are too SuSE/Novell and KDE centric.
In generally that the problem with almost all free icon themes. They are all for either KDE or Gnome or even both, but not for the Win32 world.

Ok problem KDE and Gnome are both merging into one Theme system. So there will only be one Icon theme system for all Windows managers on Linux/Unix.

But at least the pain of supporting them is going away.

Only 3 filetypes to work with.

What is needed is a coverter from SVG files to MS Icons.
I am not sure if linux png icons sizes match windows required sizes. From memory they don't.

Reason most linux themes these days have a SVG version.

I'd like to see Nuvola in ReactOS:

Come on guys, why can't you deviate from Windows where you can? Use some attractive icons and you can really make yourselves look ahead.

I have nothing wrong with using better icons. Most people here would not have anything wrong with better icons.

The bad bit is Windows Compad has to be looked after.

So svg to MS icon converter would meet this. Reason applications do ask for icons. And expect the MS format.

Fix the compad problem nice Icons will come.

im guessing compad is short for compatibility or is some interal lingo thing?

i am interested in seeing icons in their natural habitat, namely the desktop. so i think screenshots are in order:
http://www.everaldo.com/splashs/crystal-clear.html
some of the stuff looks nice; other stuff doesnt fit in my opinion.

but at the very least, reactos is going to have to support vista icons (windows compatibility thing, but down the road). so i just made like four icons(file, font, film real, and browser) from these "crystal clear." but i dont know what the 256 sized icons look like in "their natural habitat," so anybody able/wanna test and put up a screenshot/voice their approval/disapproval? i could email then tomorrow.

Matt

PS. iconlover is a great program. photoshop too.

...as everyone, i think. This is the main purpose of this 3ad !!!

Again, i'm not talking about a specific theme (all open source icons CAN be used in ROS !), but about a website-feature such as the Desktop Virtualizer. In this way users could take (and submit) what THEY like.

Anyway, request (pool) submitted in the Website discussion forum section.

compad is short for compatibility
Its a short hand I do. I normally remove them from posting. Its just me. don't anyone else use it around it. It is completely wrong word to be using.

I guess you did not get my problem.

Programs Expect sizes of 48x48 32x32 16x16
And Color maps of 256 and 16 colours
Vista adds size of 256x256
And Color Maps of RGB/A

128x128 is sometimes required for some applications. But the applications that require these will just rescale 48x48 up and look really bad.

Now a tool that takes the base svg of a crystal-clear or any other theme and produced the required windows icon files would be great. So when applications ask for Icons in Windows format they can get it.

The Windows Comptibility problem. A simple tool to go from nice linux them icons to windows icons would the be first step. Then we can have true open compare and selection of icons.

Some of the themes like Crystal-clear might no longer work at 16x16 icons. We will not know until we have the Icons in the required sizes.

Note these are not only OS requirement some applications have these requirement. So if we are running Windows Applications we have to provide the sizes and color maps.
