The angle of the ball on the first one was better IMHO.

Yes, the angle was better, maybe electrons + original angle (but maybe original-like, some new design...). IMHO :P

Wow, since the electrons match up with the white space already, why don't you just ditch them. The original angle is much better so I suggest using that. Finally, just to avoid legal issues, why don't you use the reactos blue (web site color), or the marblized blue of the current logo instead of the Microsoft colors?

You can't own colours and the order of the colours is different so there should be no legal issues

This icon should replace XP icon with resource hacking.
Your icon is 10 times better than XP original, but reactos should stay on original because this is most suitable.

TIMN did a nice composite, too. Is there any real reason that the logo needs a couple of opposing electron pairs?

The current logo is an atom and atoms have electrons.

Last time I checked electrons are not visible or predictable, but they are assumed by the general public to exist in an orbital pattern which we know is not true. The fact that nice lines were used around the logo have nothing to do with the reality of an atom.

The simple and colorful icon in this case brightens up the drab colors that were going into ROS. The project really ought to focus on a simple bright theme for its 1.0 and then get fancy as it matures. The general population is going to find the bright colors more inviting. Advanced users tend to move towards non-bright colors and minimalistic eye candy.
