I'm fully aware of the post being posted in 26 of November 2016 in this thread but I willingly want to express my thought into this matter.
Having a mascot for ReactOS is, and I am saying this boldly, NOT NEEDED at least not in foreseeable future. Don't get me wrong but at the moment ReactOS has a long road to go when it comes to development, kernel building, features and whatnot. In my humble opinion, the ReactOS logo with the atom nucleus and electron orbitals is more than enough.
We should rather focus on something crucial and important such as the Operating System stability than a "mascot". It is not worth it to be sincere.

My only problem is that your statement would be implying that people who would otherwise be programming would instead be wasting their time on a mascot. I don't believe any programmers would do this. Therefore, it does not waste their time. That being said, an artist working on a mascot for questionable purposes could otherwise be helping by contributing icons and desktop themes. Personally, I see no need for a mascot. If there is one person with enough time to do this and no interest in designing icons, let him go and make one. Of course, it shall need to be approved later.
The idea of a mascot has occurred before: threads with 'mascot' in first post. In the end, the idea of a ReactOS mascot fades away. Then a year or two passes and the mascot idea returns again.
Also using that abbreviation more often might help avoid having people thinking that ReactOS is somehow linked to the JS React framework the first time they hear about it...

Yes, and here is a far-fetched relationship: ROS -> ROSe -> emblem of Socialist Party -> Soviet ROS -> Glory to Motherland!
