The current ntvdm.exe icon in ReactOS was old-fashioned. Here's my new ntvdm.exe icon...

As the author of the current NTVDM icon, let me explain why it looks old fashioned. So first, the old-fashion look was done on purpose. Because, NTVDM aims at emulating a 486-class PC-AT, only (with small extensions, but still). And as you know, the PCs at that time looked... ugly^^ : look at those pictures:

The 90-ish look of the icon meant to reflect the oldiness of the hardware that is emulated in NTVDM.

I like this one. The monitor could have sharp edges, since it's kind of pixelated style.
