IDE enhanced mode, what is it, why it does not work?

Post by paul »

Hi, I tested TRUNK (some days ago), more precisely livecd-48891-dbg.iso.

On Pentium III with a Voodoo 3 AGP video card, it looks like all the drivers were loaded on the black screen (after FreeLoader).
But it seems hang at the end. Maybe Voodoo 3 is not a VESA card?

On the Asus P5GZ-MX (integrated Intel 945 chipset), at first, the system seems to hang on ... uniata.sys driver on the black screen.
With the CD light always on. (This motherboard is somewhat between SATA and IDE in term of generation. My DVD drive is IDE, my hard disk is SATA-2 (with jumper to slow down at SATA-1 speed).

I then did go to my BIOS, change back from IDE enhanced mode to IDE compatibility mode (in which My Isadora Linux Mint seems not to boot anymore when I do so).

Then the ReactOS livecd booted just fine.

Is it a known problem?
Is it some doc somewhere that would explains to me what is changing with this new enhanced IDE mode?

I do wonder what SATA controller your motherboard has. You should not set it in AHCI mode, as it is not supported by UNIATA. Voodoo3 should not be a problem, i had it working some time ago, no problem with VESA.
