The new Explorer

Post by PetruDimitriu » Fri Jun 26, 2009 1:04 pm

How will it look like? What will it have different from the present explorer? Maybe a XP/Vista/7-like Start menu?

And I hope we can keep the current start menu that ROS has in the current explorer in the new explorer as an option to change to it like in XP and Vista (But Windows 7 removed the classic start menu.)

So explorer-new will have an XP-like start menu.

I don't know actually, but if it does, then I'd like to have my suggestion brought up to the table.

It looks no different than the current shell, just will be a bit less creaky code wise.

I only wish that it has the option to hide the 1234 desktops thing on the taskbar.

There are only two desktops, 4 were a long time ago. :) Personally, I like that multiple desktop thing, but probably a tiny button (which opens a desktop chooser) should be enough.

Or do what Ubuntu does. CRTL+ALT+Arrow Left/Right to shift desktops and show an animation or dialog that shows the dcesktop shift in the middle of the screen. Then you could allow people to hide it.

Well, just a little checkbox in the explorer properties whether to show it or not... I want to neatly put my quicklaunch there, thats how it is on my windows.

Not to mention it is probably the only thing feature-wise that the dev's have decided to ADD to ReactOS, that is not a feature in Windows.

Never did like it myself.

Explorer-new.exe is good on Windows, but on ReactOS it isn't working yet. But devs are still implementing whatever needed to ReactOS.
