I've the latest build of ReactOS isntalled into VirtualBox. The OS detects the audio device, installs the driver i point it to, and it's in device manager.

But Id on't see this:

Image

"Wave output" isn't there... all boxes are blank... I'm not sure what to do? Winamp says it can't find a soundcard. :(

Help appreciated.

You should use latest builds from here: is this what you are using or is it latest release 0.3.8?
The driver for vbox is here:
Once installed you need to restart the system to be able to play any sound.

Anyone knows sth more? I can't listen to even a wav file.

Thanks, I ahve the latest trunk build. I'll try that driver now.

EDIT: Okay I'm still having this problem:

i used Winamp 2.50 for the tests... others players don't recognize audio ( but i heared sounds from old Flash6 executables... videos and old win98 jokes )

i see that only placing .INF on INF and .SYS in drivers ( automatic driver install on setup ) , some times audio don't work ( .sys don't appear on Driver file Details ) ...

i installed Audio drivers adding the soundcard in a 2nd time...

I have also seen that audio driver some times ( randomly ) don't work... ( just restart ReactOS and try again )

Are there any plans on adding the drivers to the SVN, or is this a no-no?

Okay, thanks to aicom, who has helped me on IRC with this, here are the steps to take:

Make sure you have AC97 in virutalbox enabled and set to DirectSound.

DO NOT run the hardware wizard just yet, leave it sitting there.

Download this from within ReactOS: http://svn.reactos.org/packages/ac97_vbox.exe

extract to C:\ReactOS\

Run the hardware wizard you should have left alone.

Restart Twice. (yes twice)

Go and check sounds and audio devices for this:

Grab Winamp 2.91, I tried 2.95 but it has a weird graphics bug.

Play an mp3.

This should be all. If you install Firefox 2.0 and Flash Player 10, youtube works with audio too.

EDIT: Also, sometiems Winamp doesn't work when it did before. If this happens - reboot the VM.

Well in some cases that worked, but in some others didn't.
Have to wait for some extra fixes before testing audio.
Thnx!

Cool, but it does not work on Windows 2000 too.
Anyways, there is no problem since I did little fixes and I compiled a working version myself.

Could you specify what exactly doesnt work on Windows 2000? I`m running Winamp 2.95 from this OS right now.

Yeah, qemu 0.10.1 doesn't work in W2k because FreeAddrInfo was added to ws2_32.dll in XP and later:

"In Windows Server 2003 and in Windows XP, new Windows Sockets functions are added to the Windows Socket API. GetAddrInfo and FreeAddrInfo are the two new Windows Sockets functions that are added for dealing with both Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) addresses" from here.
