Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
We wont just code the Kernel FOR SURE! Otherwise we will see the same problems linux has now. 3*10^66 Distros, many of them fully incompatible and full of useless crap. No, THANK YOU! We release the Original, real ROS Distro and wont support any others.
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes
Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
To be honest, I don't see what people could do with the ReactOS source that would make it that much better.EmuandCo wrote:We wont just code the Kernel FOR SURE! I mean, they could do fairly minor things, such as change the default shell, or bundle stuff like Firefox and Open Office with the default install... but if they started to mess around with anything that actually affected how the OS worked, they'd most likely bugger up compatibility. Which is, you know, sort of the whole point this thing.
So, the chances are that I'd stick with the official, main, actual ReactOS, on the basis that all I want is a free, modern, trustworthy implementation of NT that runs my programs.

Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
We already had ppl in the past who were crazy enough to risk compatibility just to have their names written down somewhere in ROS. Tsvetan Banchev for example wanted to add a Linux Kernel to replace the ROS one. Luckily he even was too dumb to correctly load the source or build it. So Tsonic OS died.

Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
I think that ReactOS distros are inevitable thing in the future. Different people, different requirements.
Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
It is late October, a week before Halloween. What is currently holding up 0.3.7? Will there be a 0.4 by the end of the year?
Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
ReactOS 0.4 will not be there by the end of this year. See 0.4.0 roadmap. Many things are not implemented.
0.3.7 is not yet ready. See this table. Maybe you can help with testing.

Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
0.3.7 SVN is being tested now to see whether it's suitable for release. No serious bugs have been found so far. A release is therefore imminent.
0.3.8 has not been branched yet, but should be released before the end of the year if everything goes right and will contain some nice new features (no details yet

Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
IMO 0.3.7 is ready to be released (I'm posting this from 0.3.7 SVN r36923). I haven't seen any major bugs so 0.3.7 will be probably rebranched this weekend unless a new major bug appears. Once that happens then a release will come soon after. Expect to see many less crashes in 0.3.7 because two major causes of random BSODs were fixed (a BSOD caused by broken worker thread termination and also a BSOD caused by a spin lock not being released when tcpip discards a datagram).
Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
Thanks for that really good news!

Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
Basically ReactOS is a test of patience. Unless you can code or have the equipment to do debug work, there's not much else to do except sit and wait. I personally wouldn't want 0.3.7 to come out if it didn't have enough changes to warrant the label. It's like waiting for a new toy to play with every month or two.
Nice to hear that it should be coming out soon. The last version went pretty well, so I'm looking forward to what's coming next.

Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
Yup 0.3.6 was huge step forward.

Raptor Emperor:
Reactos 0.3.7 will be more stable( as aicom said 2 major bugs has been solved among others...), and also they are working in internals.
Reactos 0.3.7 dont have big changes that users can see, but users (i hope) will feel them. So dont expect big visible changes, but as u can see the 0.3.7 ChangeLog is pretty big (and not finished yet):

Big Big surprises will arrive in Christmas(or maybe a little bit later)...

My english is worse than yours ShamanPL: no problem
After 0.3.7 comes 0.3.8 and then 0.3.9 and then...who knows...we will have two posibilities: 0.3.10 or 0.4
There are some milestones that 0.4.0 must have: USB support,Audio,etc..
If 0.3.9 has almost these features then 0.4.0 comes...if it doesnt have them..will come 0.3.10
I think after 0.3.9 will come 0.4 now they are working in USB and some more improvements...so...they will be almost done for 0.3.9

Re: ReactOS 0.3.7
Noone said we use a decimal system for our Version numbers. Maybe we even skip 0.3.9 and hop to 0.4. Noone knows yet,
