Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
General ability to "create, delete and format partitions" should be introduced in USETUP (setup, stage 1), though I haven't tried if it works.X-Master wrote:"Do you know a free or at least a freeware partition manager running in Windows?"
Windows own partition manager program?
Since Vista, it also supports partition resizing.
I would say, that the general ability to create, delete and format partitions is one of the more important things, because this gives the user the ability to install and organize the system.
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
The usetup partition software is working but as I tried it there were still problems with my HDD layout.
I zeroed out the HD and it worked better.
Also it would be good to have a partition software outside of usetup or an
usetup version that can be started from livecd and do repartition seperately.

Oh, misunderstanding.Thats not free at all you can use it only in Windows (TM). The question was do you know 3th party free software running on Windows platform?
The only free partition program I know is PartitionLogic. But it is no Windows program and can only be started from a LiveCD.
I think there should exist a partition manager in the setup and also in ReactOS itself.
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
You should be very carefull with recommending partition software. The one you mentioned is practically unknown, if someone uses it and damages his stuff, you may be considered responsible by him.
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
Are you kidding?
1. I recommended nothing, I just mentioned something.
2. It is everyones own responsibility to use any kind of software and to accept possible risks.
3. I am responsible for nothing. because I am not the author.

Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
I`m not kidding. There are people taking such mentions as granted solutions
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
Well, then thanks for the warning.
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
These are all things, I also want to see in a future version.1. Explorer:
- Two panel view would be great (well-known from some file managers and also Win 7 will offer this)
- Support for tabs
- Thumbnail view for imags and movies
- Secure deletion function (for sensitive data)
- built-in image viewer with basic functions (like the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer")
And I think basic partition options like formatting, creating and deleting partitions are normal standard-functions, which every OS should provide.
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
My only complaint is that you need a generic ReactOS web browser (with others optional), kind of like MS IE, but better that not including anything at all. CD burning needs to be able to switch between simple and complex modes, not like XP's simplified sucky CD Burning wizard (something like CDBurnerXP Pro would be nice).
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
This has been discussed for a long time, and the result is: "ReactOS will not ship with any web browser."fdwhacker wrote:My only complaint is that you need a generic ReactOS web browser (with others optional), kind of like MS IE
As for why, search the forum for any thread with the word "Firefox" in it.
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
Does anyone remember the ibrowser.exe ?
There was one a C++ Internet browser included and the user had to install either Mozillas Gecko libraries,
or use some IE libraries which I could not get to work.
The IBrowser got deleted because at some point it was very broken.
The IBrowser was a rather big program that used ReactOS Explorer code and looked like this:

Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
Well, you should at least give users the option to install Firefox with ROS so that we don't have to get it ourselves (no internet access).
Re: Suggestions for default programs in ROS
Put the Firefox on an ISO image (don't burn, just save image to disk) called Applications.iso and put it into QEMU's "files" directory. Then use this tutorial to install ReactOS on QEMU and the last line in the section is used to mount the ISO. Now there is drive D:, where Firefox installation lies and without repeated downloading (also the image doesn't have to be called Applications.iso, just don't forget then to change the commandline appropriately ).

Distro CDs will solve this.fdwhacker wrote:Well, you should at least give users the option to install Firefox with ROS so that we don't have to get it ourselves (no internet access).
