Drivers for the various m/b, snd, nic, vga, etc
Why does the reactos team not utilize the driverpacks freely available. You could even liase with driverpack.com. the packs are free to be used when you want to burn a bootable Win XP Cd. You might get MS legal problems but normaly its only a small part of these packs. (USB2). There is enough usb2 drivers freely available.

Why open source
For eg: I am using jour os and lets say installed a ATI colour card. Ok the card comes with drivers and other utilities on a CD right. What's the difference going to ATI and saying look this is what we are doing, can we package your driver or driver pack with our product, as it is even MS have now gone and opened a open source section, but with MS sa we all know there might me some strings attached etc.
The same should apply for motherboards, eg: some motherboards, especially when used in a built up system they use Linux. Linux also comes prepacked with most drivers.
I dont think most venders of equiptment will mind if you use their drivers in your package as long as they have been asked/notified and that the bought product works and there is no comebacks to them when there drivers automatically loads. This natuarly excludes MS, I always seem to difficult when it comes to their stuff.
If you want I can find out a bit more and post it here, at present one source of info, my suppliers have gone holiday for the festive season, so I may not have a reply immediatly.
I think if this could be achieved it will shoten your developtime tremendously.
Regards

Some Legal Jargon I got of the Driverpack site
Use at your own risk, author cannot be held responsible for possible failures, crashes, and any other problems arising out of the above-said package's usage (however this is very improbable).
You are not permitted to redistribute the DriverPacks without the author's explicit, written permission.
If you wish to implement the DriverPacks in your software, please contact the author.
An API is available. [/color]

First and foremost, we aim to only provide the necessary drivers that will allow a person to use their computer. That means a basic driver for video, disks, mouse/keyboard, and if we're lucky, networking. Bundling drivers will make the system bloated, especially since we don't know what a person's hw configuration will be. And even if we were to consider including drivers with the installation, that would have to wait until the chances of those drivers working is greater than 50/50. It's far too early to be debating this, since there's too much other work to do to make ROS stable.
Linux includes drivers because their current model isn't exactly conducive to how people install drivers on Windows, especially with their open hostility towards binary drivers.

My humblist apologies to all I have effended, I only realised how big the lettering was after I posted. Be assured it wont happen again, I even got a skrik when I saw how big the letters were.
As a after thought I have lots and lots of various old drivers whether they are open source or not I dont know, but if u are looking maybe for older drivers for test purposes or what ever, post here and I can see what I have got.
As for the "geek" etc I have been in the game since 1984 and beyooooound.

BTW, an open source Universal VESA/VBE Video Display Driver would be great, IMHO. 8)

it is base on our current vbe drv the source code. the close source vbe he have is base on ms ddk code and some other coder. we have good relship with him.open source Universal VESA/VBE Video Display Driver would
his driver are instread yes, and some idea he got that we both devloped to gother. we can not share code in his close drv
I don't know, maybe a language problem...
Z98, that project is 9x and CLOSED SOURCE, so it's clear that it's useless.
BTW the idea behind it is great (IMHO): just one standard driver for all videocards.
Again, listen to Steve:
