ReactOS & VirtualPC v6
Posted: Tue Dec 18, 2007 11:38 pm
I noticed a mention here about ReactOS working under VMware...
I boot into deadness under Vpc2007...
ANYONE tried this or are there known issues with Vpc?

ROS is known to not work on VPC because of a weird thing with VPC's graphic system.

Please try Virtual Box 1.5.2
The speed is great and the program is small and freeware

I am trying to install ROS 3.3 using Virtual Box 1.5.2, but after installation ROS does not boot neither normal nor debug.
What guest OS I should select for ROS on VBox. I have tried Other and WinXP, but did not help.
Also my host OS is WinXP, with AMD Athlon X2, video GeForce 7300 PCIE
Tried to turn on/off AMD-V feature in VBox, but again did not help.
I have chosen multiprocessor target for ROS, because if I choose single cpu installation background becomes red color and does not continue.

I am using win 2000 as OS with a 200-300MB virtual hard disk, 4MB video buffer size and 256MB ram into virtual box settings and i booted normally the latest nightly and generally almost all the latest nightlies.
Which nightly did you use?

I am using the release 3.3 iso from downloads, I now will try with those nightly

Hmmm yeah 0.3.3 is too old for Virtual Box and you might have problems.
Please use a nightly

I've tryed it and yes, it boots...sometimes. The main problem of ReatOS in VirtualPC is that the diaskpart-prog doesnt't like the VirtualPC hardware. Often you can't boot because of partition signature != 55AA. Sometimes you can get around that, when you try to reformat. Wiki says, that VitualPC emulates 'a standard SVGA VESA graphics card (S3 Trio 64 PCI with 4 MByte Video RAM, adjustable in later versions up to 16 MByte)' so there shoudn't be any problems.

vitualpc does not work well with reactos
for they are a hacked version of qemu with ton of hacks.
use qemu or vmware for best experins of ReactOS

GL: Do you mean vbox or VPC?

VirtualBox is by far better and more stable than qemu (even though it uses parts of qemu)...

VirtualBox is being actively developed with frequent releases and has an ever growing list of features, supported guest operating systems and platforms it runs on.
