Network Card Support?
Does anyone know what network card are supported? Any PCI expansion cards?
Re: Network Card Support?
If you check in the registry there is support for some cards, these are the most simple to get to work.reub2000 wrote:Does anyone know what network card are supported? Any PCI expansion cards?
Here follows a list:
3Com 3c90x
Novell Ne2000
AMD PCNet it's called, I don't know the numbers
I also think a Realtec Nic is supported, but I'm not sure it has support in the registry.
If you want to know which cards that people has some success with, this is the page, it also includes some links to drives and info this page is a gold mine.

Actually, all supported hardware is interesting...

All I found on either newegg or zip zoom fly was 3c90x. Looks expensive for a 10/100 network card. Does anyone know where to get one of the other cards for cheaper? If I do have to spend $30 to try ROS on real hardware, I think the $30 would be worth it.

Realtek Cards
I picked up a big box of Realtek 8139 cards off eBay last summer, I have been installing them in just about every system I build/sell.
As for the 3Com 3c90x, AMD PCNet, and Most Generic NE2000 compatible cards (Realtek RTL8019 is very common), go to your local Used computer parts store, and look in the $5 network card box
You'll also find alot of the Newcom UTP-16b cards in the cheapo (sometimes even free) areas...they are fully NE2000 compatible.
(all the used parts stores around here have one, and if your local store doesn't have one....suggest it)
If all else fails, and shipping wont be too much, I can probably dig one of the above mentioned cards out of my bin and send it along for a small fee.
I think the only cards I have that isn't one of the above types are the Orinoco Gold Wifi card in my laptop and the ADMTek (ASound) Router/Nic combo in this machine (lan party without all the extra equipment)
Good luck!
